Beginning June 27, Genie+ is going to look very different at Walt Disney World. The Disney Genie+ service, which debuted in late 2021, replaced the old Fastpass+ system with what is known now as Lightning Lanes, which are basically Fastpasses you have to pay for. It used to be that you pay a flat fee (the price of which changes on projected demand for that day) per person to have priority access to select attractions. It didn’t matter which park you were planning on visiting that day or if you planned on park-hopping to different parks. You still had to pay the same flat fee per person to enjoy the Genie+ service.
That all changes on June 27, however, as Walt Disney World will introduce variable pricing depending on what park you’re visiting and if you decide to park-hop. How it’ll work is every day, depending on demand, Walt Disney World will offer different prices for Genie+ for the different parks. For example, on one day Genie+ at Animal Kingdom could cost $16 while at Magic Kingdom it could cost $27.
If you have a one-park-per-day ticket, this is good news as your overall cost for Genie+ will likely go down depending on which parks you plan on visiting during your trip. If you plan on park-hopping, however, the price of Genie+ has effectively gone up due to the fact that there will be a separate park-hopping Genie+ option (which is essentially the old version of Genie+) that will most likely match the price of the top-priced park that day.
What this means is if Magic Kingdom costs $30 and the rest of the parks cost less than that, it’s assumed that the park-hopping Genie+ price will also cost $30. The sample price Disney gave in its press release for this change showed the park-hopping price at $27, which is already higher than what it was the last few days. This whole situation actually looks like a price increase disguised as savings for guests. Although we won’t know this for sure as it depends on how many guests purchase park-hopping tickets compared to those that purchase one-park-per-day tickets.
