Lockers at Universal Studios Hollywood cover

One of the most underrated ways to make your day at Universal Studios Hollywood a lot smoother is by renting a locker for the day. A successful day at Universal Studios Hollywood sometimes means having to bring along things that you’ll only use for a part of the day, such as ponchos or sweaters. Having a place to store them means you get to enjoy your day without having to lug a heavy bag around everywhere. The lockers at Universal Studios Hollywood are perfect for storing most of the things you’ll need for the park on the day of your visit.

Now I say most because while there are lockers at Universal Studios Hollywood, they won’t be able to accommodate everything you might need to bring to the park. I’ll explain what I mean by this in the sections below. Hopefully this guide can act as a good overview of what you can expect from the storage options at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Without further ado, let’s begin!

Lockers at Universal Studios Hollywood Overview

There are two kinds of lockers at Universal Studios Hollywood: general lockers or the lockers that can be found at the front of the park, and the attraction lockers that can be found at some specific rides. The former are similar to the lockers you can find in other theme parks like Disneyland. You pay a small fee and you get to use them for the entire day.

The attraction lockers are located in two attractions in Universal Studios Hollywood: Revenge of the Mummy – The Ride and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. I’ll explain more about how these lockers work in their specific section below, but these rides will not allow you to take belongings onto the ride. Because of this, they require that you store them at a temporary locker before you get on the ride.

It should be noted that while the lockers can generally fit backpacks and other items you normally carry at a theme park, they cannot accommodate luggages. Unlike at the Disneyland resort where you can store small luggages in the lockers outside the park, at Universal Studios Hollywood you won’t be able to do so. If you need to store your luggage somewhere, consider doing so at your hotel or in your car.

Now that we’ve gotten a bird’s eye view of the locker options at Universal Studios Hollywood, let’s go into detail on each kind of locker.

Lockers at the Front of the Park

Lockers at Universal Studios Hollywood globe

At the front of the park you’ll find the general lockers. These lockers are purchased on a first come first serve basis and are subject to availability, so if you want one you need to get one as soon as you get into the park. That being said, they don’t usually run out on any given day unless it’s a particularly crowded day. You should be able to get a locker even if you begin your day much later.

To rent a locker, head to one of the terminals and follow the instructions on the screen. You can pay in card or in cash to rent a locker. Lockers that are rented at this location are rented for the entire day and can be accessed an unlimited number of times. There’s no minimum or maximum number of times you need to access the locker.

Here are the locker dimensions available, as well as their prices:

$10 Small Lockers: 14″ (H) × 11″ (W) × 17″ (L)

$15 Large Lockers: 18″ (H) × 11″ (W) × 17″ (L)

As you’ll notice, the only thing that really changes is the height of the locker. If you have a bigger backpack or want more space, definitely splurge on the bigger locker. If, however, you’re only going to keep smaller items in the locker or will be shuffling items in and out so you don’t need a lot of room, then the smaller lockers should be fine for you.

Again, like I mentioned in the overview, there aren’t any lockers for luggages or bags larger than a backpack. I would keep bags like these at your hotel or in your car. You can also find luggage storage options nearby using the service Bounce.

Lockers at Specific Attractions

Now the second kind of locker you can find at Universal Studios Hollywood are the attraction lockers. Two attractions (Revenge of the Mummy – The Ride and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey) require guests to store bags and loose articles in lockers before riding to ensure every guest’s safety. Because of this, they offer free* lockers outside the attractions for you to use to store your belongings before you ride.

I put an asterisk beside free because they are technically only free for two hours. If you end up waiting in line for more than 2 hours, you will then be charged a fee which you will have to pay before you can reopen the locker. Unlike the general lockers, the attraction lockers can only be closed and opened once. Once you open it, it becomes free for the next rider to use.

Larger lockers are also available to rent at these attraction lockers, although you will be charged a fee for them. The free locker is tiny and will only fit a small bag and a couple of items. If you need any more than that, I would consider getting one of the bigger lockers.

Here’s how much the lockers at these two attractions cost:

  • Free while you ride for short-term storage.
  • Larger or longer-use lockers are also available.
    • $5 for the first two hours
    • $5 for each additional hour, up to a daily maximum of $20.

Again, these are single use lockers, meaning they’re only worth it if you only plan on taking your belongings out of the lockers at the end of the day. If you need to repeatedly store and remove belongings from the lockers, I would suggest renting one at the front of the park.
