Disney’s Hollywood Hotel is one of the two original hotels that opened together with the rest of the Hong Kong Disneyland resort in September 2005. This hotel back then was themed to the golden age of Hollywood and featured Art Deco design and decor. However, a recent refurbishment following the pandemic has shifted the hotel’s design. It’s still an Art Deco hotel, but now is themed to Disney stories, particularly Walt Disney Animation, Pixar, and Marvel.

I was able to stay at the hotel on my most recent trip to the resort on July 7-9, 2025. I’ve stayed at this hotel countless times and it is probably the Disney hotel I’ve stayed at the most anywhere in the world. This was my first time, however, staying at the hotel since they refurbished the lobby area and the two restaurants, as well as all the rooms. How does the hotel stack up to its previous version? And how does it stack up to the other HKDL hotels? This review is going to cover every aspect of the hotel, from its design to its rooms and dining options.

Klook.comBackground of the Hotel and Our Stay

As mentioned, Disney’s Hollywood Hotel opened with the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort on September 12, 2005. Originally meant to evoke 1930s Hollywood, the hotel has since shifted in theme, now being themed to Disney cinematic stories. It has 600 rooms overlooking the park, the gardens of the hotel, and the ocean. It has one Marvel-themed bar, a buffet restaurant, a store, an arcade, a pool, a playground, and some stunning gardens.
Now I will admit, I have a bit of an attachment to this hotel, mostly because it was the first Disney hotel I stayed at, and is currently the Disney hotel I’ve stayed at the most. However, they massively revamped a lot of the hotel since I last stayed there, and while I would say that around 30% of it remains unchanged, the rest of it did change drastically. Experiencing this hotel again gave me this eerie feeling where it was familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time.

For this trip, we were staying for two nights at one of their Marvel themed rooms. We also booked a breakfast buffet meal at the new Ink and Plate restaurant, which replaced the former Chef Mickey restaurant. While we admired the exterior of the new and improved bar called The Archivist and even bought take out breakfast from there one day, we did not actually have a meal or a drink at the bar.
While I think on the whole the hotel improved, there were some notable things that I would consider a downgrade compared to the old version of Disney’s Hollywood Hotel. Our room design was significantly better than the previous rooms we stayed in, but with the loss of some of the hotel’s amenities and dining options, it’ll be hard for us to justify a repeat stay at this hotel.
Design

The hotel still maintains that blue and white color scheme for the outside of the building. I personally love the color scheme as there’s something so retro and old Hollywood about it. Every facet of the hotel still has Art Deco elements that, to me, are really eye-catching and beautiful.
The lobby is filled with these soft couches and chairs and is adorned with gorgeous art that showcases Disney and Marvel characters as well as locations found in Disney and Pixar movies. The art deco feel extends to the corridors of the hotel, as does the blue and white color scheme. Outside the Archivist you’ll find marvel concept art on the walls, and the little walkway that connects the lobby to the former Hollywood and Dine quick service eatery has concept art for different Disney movies on the walls.

The hallways leading to the rooms are also very sophisticated, with plush carpeting and little details scattered throughout. The elevators also evoke the 1930s, with the voices in the elevators featuring Marvel and Disney characters. I will discuss the rooms and the grounds in other sections of this post below.
Overall I would say this is a well-themed Disney hotel. While its lobby doesn’t come close to the lobbies of the other two Hong Kong Disneyland hotels, and it’s on the lower half of Disney hotels I’ve stayed at in terms of design, I would say it’s still an immaculately themed hotel that blows most other hotels out of the water.
Arrival Experience

We arrived at the hotel a full 6 hours before check-in was scheduled to begin, so of course our room wasn’t ready yet. Because it wasn’t ready, we were told to leave our luggage at bell services, which is located outside the hotel to the left of the main entrance. They tagged all our bags and gave us a slip to give to the cast members when we checked in. They said our bags would then be delivered to our room.
We then lined up to check-in, which didn’t take too long. Soon a lovely cast member was checking us in. She gave us our roomkey and confirmed that we had reservations for breakfast the next day. She then assisted us with getting our magic access passes. That’s something you should note when staying at a Hong Kong Disneyland resort hotel: the cast members at the hotel can issue your annual passes for you.

One thing I didn’t like though is that they asked us if we wanted to buy the amenity kits that are usually found in the room. I was confused by this because when we stayed at the Explorer’s Lodge in 2023, they gave us the amenities for free, which was the case for every single other Disney hotel I’ve stayed at since I first started going to Disney in 2006. I was taken aback by this and this was one of the big negatives I had about the hotel. Amenities should be included in the hotel stay, especially since we’re paying a premium price to stay in these hotels anyway.

We were then told that we would receive an email containing our room number when the room was ready, and once we did, we wouldn’t need to go to the front desk to activate the key card. All we had to do was head straight for our room and the key card should work. I thought this was a nice touch. Additionally, it was really nice being in a Disney hotel where they delivered your bags to your room for you.

Klook.comRoom and In-Room Amenities

Our room was room 6628. To get to it, we had to take the elevators that were near the front desk and then go all the way to the end. We were given the furthest possible hotel room from the elevators, which made sense since we didn’t pay for a preferred room. It wasn’t that bad though, and I have to say that the room was probably the part of this hotel that was the most improved compared to the old version of the hotel.

We stayed in a Marvel-themed room. We had two double beds, a tv, a nightstand, a desk and chair, a water dispenser, a closet area with a safe, and a bathroom that was not a split bathroom. Because we didn’t buy the amenity kits, the only amenities in the room were towels, shampoo and body wash, and slippers that were marvel themed.

I absolutely loved the decor of the room. I loved the little “now showing” marquee on the nightstand, as well as the wall art on the headboard and the closet. The shower curtain also had a fun design as well. The lamp near the table was themed like studio lights, which I found really cute. Our room number outside also had Black Panther on it which I thought was a nice touch. Each bed also had a very nice Avengers throw pillow. Outside of the design, I loved the water dispenser they added to the room, and the beds were really soft and comfortable, as were the pillows. Towels were also great, and the curtains could make the room very dark if needed.

While I enjoyed the design of the room, there were still some drawbacks to it. There was no dresser under the tv, meaning there’s not really any storage to unpack your belongings. Additionally, the bathroom is really tight and tiny. The shower especially was so small compared to other Disney hotels I stayed at that it was a little claustrophobia inducing. The lack of a split bathroom can also be challenging for groups or families of 4. But overall, it’s a nice hotel room and I wish I spent more time in it.
Restaurants

There are only two restaurants available at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel: Ink and Plate, a buffet restaurant and the main restaurant of the hotel, and The Archivist, which is the Marvel themed bar. There used to be a quick service, grab-and-go place called Hollywood and Dine located in a corner of the ground floor, but upon checking its location on my last visit, it seemed to not be in use anymore.

We had the opportunity to dine at Ink and Plate during our stay at the hotel. If you want to dine at Ink and Plate, you can either purchase your meal in advance, purchase it at check-in, or purchase it on the day itself, subject to availability. You can also dine at any time between 7am-11am for breakfast, which I liked as it made our morning very flexible. Design-wise, the restaurant looked very similar to Chef Mickey, with the one exception being the large mural that takes up the entire right side of the restaurant. The restaurant still maintained that art deco aesthetic, which I like.

Their breakfast selection was pretty broad for a Disney hotel breakfast. They of course had the standard items like bacon and Mickey waffles, but they also had a noodle station, dimsum, and even pizza! Their dessert selection was also pretty broad, as was their selection of coffee and juices. The restaurant was also very bright and welcoming, and you got to take a picture with a Disney character during the meal (ours was Goofy). The mural they installed was also gorgeous. I kept staring at it all throughout the meal because it was so pretty.

On the whole, I really liked this restaurant. The food was good, the ambience was sophisticated yet inviting, and the cast members were very friendly. This was probably my favorite meal of the entire trip, and I highly recommend taking advantage of the buffet breakfast if you’re staying at the hotel.

While we didn’t get to experience The Archivist, it does look like a significant improvement over the Studio Lounge that used to be there. The Marvel art adorning the exterior and interior of the restaurant is stunning, but the meals and drinks seemed to be a little overpriced. They were more expensive than almost everything found at the park, and the portion sizes seemed small for what you got. This is a big reason why we decided to skip this bar, but look forward to trying it soon for the theming.

On the whole, I would say the dining options at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel were good. It gets docked a lot of points in my book, however, because of its lack of a quick service dining option. Hollywood and Dine was great because you could just go and get a snack after a long day at the park if you wanted to. Closing that down forces hungry hotel guests to splurge at either of the two existing restaurants if they want food after a day at the park. I get why they did it, but in my opinion the guest experience would improve by a lot if they added it back.
Shops

There is only one shop in the hotel, called Celebrity Gifts, that is essentially still the same store from before the refurb. They have a lot of the merch that you can find at the park here, including a lot of Duffy and Friends items. Remember that, if you’re staying at this hotel, you get a bunch of coupons in your hotel room that give you discounts on items purchased at the hotel gift shop. If you’re planning on shopping, don’t forget to show these coupons with your room key!
The shop I thought had a complete set of merchandise, although I would’ve liked it more if they had some of the park specific and attraction specific merchandise here, but I also understand why they would like to keep those specifically at the parks. They also had Disney’s Hollywood Hotel specific merchandise at this shop, which is another thing that I liked about it.

Klook.comPools, Grounds, and Amenities

The grounds of the hotel are amazing. There are a lot of photo opportunities scattered throughout the grounds. From the wide film strip walkway to the Hollywood Hotel sign at the back of the hotel, there’s just so much to see in these very elaborate gardens.

The area at the back of the hotel in particular is gorgeous and if you go to the back of the sign you’ll see two vintage cars you can also take pictures with. You can also exit the property at the back end of the grounds, where you’ll reach a waterfront path that connects to the other hotels.

There’s also a playground on the grounds and a pool. The pool is called the Piano pool because it’s shaped like a piano and has a water slide as well that guests that are 32 inches or taller can use. There’s a lifeguard on duty at all times at the pool as well.
I really like the grounds of the hotel. They’re incredibly well-maintained and are big enough that you could explore around it for 30 minutes and discover new things to see. The whole area feels like stepping into a stylized version of Hollywood, which was very interesting to experience. Additionally, inside the hotel there is also an arcade area that is near where Hollywood and Dine used to be. There’s a couple of games including some claw machines there. I would highly recommend taking some time to explore the grounds during your stay.

The hotel has a wide range of amenities available to guests staying at the hotel. From currency exchange to power bank rentals to package express and laundry facilities, Disney’s Hollywood Hotel offers a lot of services to make your stay more easy. You can find a list of amenities available at the hotel here.
Parking
Parking for non-hotel guests costs HK$50 per hour. If you’re a hotel guest and want to park at the hotel, parking will cost you HK$190 per vehicle per night. If you’re planning on dining at any of the hotel restaurants, the restaurants can validate your parking for 3 hours if you spend over $500 at those restaurants. The validation is valid for 3 hours. Electric Vehicle charging is also available at the hotel parking.
Access to Parks

The main way to access the park is by taking the shuttle to the transport interchange and then walking 5-10 minutes via Park Promenade to the park entrance. Buses and shuttles depart every 10-15 minutes from 7am – 1am. If you’re planning on using the shuttle outside those hours, you’ll need to contact the Bell desk to arrange transportation.
You could also walk to the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and then walk to the park via the other side of Park Promenade, but this will take a lot longer and isn’t fun to do in the heat. I would recommend lining up for the bus 45 minutes to an hour before park opening because the line will get longer the closer it gets to park opening.
Disney’s Hollywood Hotel Final Thoughts

I thought the refurbishment of the hotel kept the spirit of the hotel alive while plussing it in ways that semi-improved the guest experience. The lack of free amenities and the closure of the Hollywood and Dine restaurant, however, dock it down a few points. That being said, the lobby area has improved drastically thanks to the addition of Disney themed art on the walls as well as the placement of various pieces of concept art around the hotel.

Ink and Plate is a standout of the hotel, as are the grounds and the pool. The room design is cute and more visually appealing than the previous design, but improvements can still be made to the bathroom design and the amenities. I think the addition of a dresser and the remodeling of the rooms to include a split bathroom would elevate this room a lot in my book.

Overall, I thought the hotel was still pretty great and reminded me a lot of the old Disney’s Hollywood Hotel I used to stay at on every visit when I was a kid. I hope this isn’t the end of their reimagining of the hotel, however, as with a few more additional touches the hotel could improve the guest experience and encourage repeat visitors. But as it stands, it’s a good-not-great hotel that I would still recommend staying in for the design and uniqueness of the hotel.
