Wayfinders’ Table is the newest quick service (or counter service) restaurant at Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL). The restaurant, formerly known as Tahitian Terrace, has reopened after a lengthy refurbishment and is now a Moana-themed restaurant. This restaurant’s opening has thus created a Moana mini-land within Adventureland as the Moana: a Homecoming Celebration show is located steps away from the restaurant.

The restaurant also debuted with a completely revamped menu. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to dine at the restaurant once during my last trip, and so this review will cover my experience in the restaurant. I will be reviewing the restaurant based on the following criteria: Design, Service and Ordering Experience, and Food, followed by my personal thoughts. As always, every view is tinged by my subjectivity, so even though I try to make this as objective as possible, some of my personal opinions will still get in the way. Just something to keep in mind.

The basic structure of the restaurant from when it was still Tahitian Terrace still stands. So on a structural level the restaurant is the same. However, the theming and design elements are all new. Wayfinders’ Table is immaculately themed, probably only behind Golden Crocus Inn at World of Frozen for best themed restaurant in the entire park.
The experience starts with the menu boards outside, which have been themed to carved surfboards. They’re so intricate and beautiful and really set the mood for the entire restaurant. The shield above them is also gorgeous and contains a carving of Moana and her friends from Moana 2. The main sign above the entrance to the restaurant is fantastic as well, and I love the inclusion of the island of Motonui above it.

The pillars of Wayfinders’ Table all have hand-painted murals on them. Speaking of hand-painted, every piece of artwork in Wayfinders’ Table is hand-painted. From the fresco above the ordering area that looks like a whale, to the many artworks that adorn the walls of the restaurant, everything was hand-crafted to make it feel like you are in the Pacific islands.

The art throughout the restaurant is amazing. The one in the ordering area in particular is beautiful. It’s also surrounded by these thatched patterns that look like they were made by weavers. It’s astoundingly beautiful and is up there with the paintings in Golden Crocus Inn for best themed elements in a restaurant in HKDL. The paintings located around the restaurant all look incredible and look like they were done by Motonui’s resident painter.

Overall, this is an incredibly well-themed restaurant. It’s a huge step up from the very generic and uninspired look that Tahitian Terrace had. This restaurant also has a story of the people of Motonui inviting guests to dine on their island. This addition of a story to the restaurant really elevates the experience.
Klook.comService and Ordering Experience

The way Wayfinders’ Table is set-up in terms of your experience ordering and claiming your food is organized, but it made me realize that on days with high attendance there might not be enough cashiers to take people’s orders. When we were there the Saturday before Halloween, the restaurant was so full that we couldn’t eat in it because of the long queue just to order food. Add to the fact that I don’t think there were enough seats to keep up with demand. Because of this, we decided to come back another day.
We came back the next day and bolted to Wayfinders’ Table as soon as the parade ended. We were able to get in line and order without any wait, and were also able to find a table really quickly. I would recommend dining right after the parade if the parade is at 1pm as the restaurant will be empty due to the amount of people who watch the parade. It still wasn’t as full as Royal Banquet Hall or Starliner Diner, but it’s probably the third most in-demand restaurant in the park.

How the ordering works is you line up by the counters which are located at the front of the restaurant. A cast member will give you a menu which you can then surrender at the ordering counter. After ordering and paying for your food, you proceed to the pick-up area and claim your food. Then, you go and find a table in the restaurant. This process was simple, and I like that the ordering and claiming were different steps in the ordering process, but the fact that there were only 2 counters meant that, at busier times, ordering will take a while. They should add a third counter to speed up the process.

Beef Steak Mee Goreng
We ordered three of the dishes at Wayfinders’ Table. We ordered the Wayfinder’s Roasted Chicken Leg with Gramma’s Signature Rice, the Beef Steak Mee Goreng, and the Seafood Laksa Soup Noodle. We also got the Banana Coconut Fritters that came in a boat that looked similar to Moana’s Boat. We also got their signature drink: the pineapple and coconut flavored slush. The other two menu options we weren’t able to try were the Massaman Prawn Curry with Gramma’s Signature Rice and the Malai Kofta and Lentil Masala with Gramma’s Signature Rice. This restaurant is certified Halal, so if that’s important for you then this restaurant is for you!

Laksa
I’m happy to report that every single dish we tried at Wayfinders’ Table was good. The roasted chicken leg was flavorful, superbly roasted, and came with perfectly seasoned rice. The Beef Steak was juicy without being too chewy, and the Mee Goreng tasted fantastic. The Laksa had the right amount of kick to it and the portion size was filling. Finally, the banana coconut fritters were sweet and the perfect way to close out the meal.

Roasted Chicken
The presentation of the meal was fantastic. Each dish was plated very thoughtfully for theme park food, especially the Banana Coconut Fritters, which as mentioned came in a boat that looked like Moana’s boat. That alone upped the presentation many notches. As mentioned, we also got the pineapple and coconut flavored slush and it came in a themed paper cup. Even the paper cup was themed to Moana! That also really elevated the presentation of the food.

Thoughts

Overall, I was very impressed with Wayfinders’ Table. I thought the cast members working at the restaurant were all commendable. They made the dining experience a whole lot more enjoyable. Everyone from the cashiers to the servers were incredibly nice, and that’s something I noticed at Hong Kong Disneyland on the whole: the cast members’ service improved so much from 10 years ago.
In addition, the food was fantastic. We really liked each of the 5 things we tried. There was not a single bad meal among the dishes and drinks we ordered. This quickly climbed the rankings of my favorite restaurants at HKDL, mostly because the food is unique and unlike anything you can find at other HKDL restaurants.

The theming is detailed and really brings you into the world of Moana. Everything from the art to the small details hidden in the pillars really brought the story of Moana to life. The Imagineers really knocked this restaurant out of the park from a design and story perspective. I would dine here just for the theming alone.

The only real negative in this restaurant is the ordering process and the number of tables. They should add a third counter to make the ordering process more efficient. If they only did that, it would’ve shortened the wait time. At the same time, the restaurant should have expanded beyond the former borders of Tahitian Terrace and added more tables to meet demand. It’s a surprisingly small restaurant, and needs more capacity.

Overall, it’s an amazingly themed restaurant that deserves its flowers. I would highly recommend eating at Wayfinders’ Table as the experience we had at this restaurant was great. This restaurant was a huge improvement over Tahitian Terrace, and by expanding it a bit it could be the best restaurant in HKDL.
