Disney revealed some new footage and ride elements for the two attractions opening at Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland. The two attractions, Space Mountain Earthrise and Sugar Rush Sweet Rescue, are slated to open next year. As part of the D23 Parks panel, Disney pulled back the curtain and revealed some new concept art, visuals, and animatronics that will be present in these two rides.
This article will go into everything that was revealed about these rides at D23, while also diving into my thoughts on the announcements made about these attractions. I will also go into detail on the Tokyo Disney projects I predicted would be talked about at this D23 that ended up not being mentioned at the panel.

Space Mountain Earthrise Details Revealed

Disney released drone footage of the Tomorrowland Plaza area that will be in front of Space Mountain Earthrise. Construction seems to be progressing well, and they also gave a sneak peek at some of the rockwork and show elements that will be present in the area.
They didn’t go too in depth on the actual story of the ride, only that you will be blasted from earth into space at the beginning of the attraction. They also showed some footage of the launch which is going to have colored lights encircling you as you blast off into the cosmos.
The Imagineering pavilion on the show floor also had a model of the Space Mountain building, as well as a model of the ride vehicle that will be used for the attraction. The ride vehicle looks like a regular roller coaster vehicle, meaning the rumor that the ride was going to spin in the same way that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind does is most probably not true.

Not a lot was revealed at D23 of this attraction, but what was shown got me even more excited for the ride. I like the Tomorrowland Plaza area, especially the different installations that give it a very otherworldly vibe. What they showed of the launch also looked spectacular. I can’t wait to learn more about how they’re going to visually represent the launching of a rocket from earth to space.
The model of the ride vehicle and the building makes me think that this ride could match or even surpass Disneyland Paris’ Space Mountain as the most beautiful Space Mountain. I love that we’re getting two incredible Space Mountain attractions in the next couple of years as Paris reverts their Space Mountain back to Space Mountain: de la Terre a la Lunne.
Relative to other projects discussed at D23, Space Mountain Earthrise got a lot of details and visuals revealed about it. Other rides just got a name and one new piece of concept art, so the fact that we got this much info about a Tokyo project is great. The Oriental Land Company, the company that owns Tokyo Disney, doesn’t really like using D23 to announce project developments, so we’re lucky that we got as much as we did.
Sugar Rush Sweet Rescue Details Revealed

Videos of various animatronics of Ralph used in the attraction were shown to attendees and viewers during the panel. The animatronics looked very large and moved very fluidly. The snippet they showed only lasted a few seconds, and it’s worth noting that they didn’t show any of the themed environments that will make up the attraction. We also didn’t get any information or visuals regarding the shooting system, as well as on the Vanellope animatronics that will be in the ride as well.
Disney also revealed the story of the ride, which has to do with aiding Ralph and Vanellope in destroying the sugar bugs, which are glitches in the game that were created by the villain of Wreck-It Ralph, King Candy. Shooting the sugar bugs will turn them into sweets, which I’m curious to see how they’re going to do that in the context of the ride.
Compared to Space Mountain Earthrise we didn’t get as much information on this ride. That being said, the videos of the animatronic Ralph look amazing. It’s like they took him straight out of the movie. I can’t wait to see how many animatronics are present in this ride. I hope it’s as much or more than Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.
The story of the ride is also cute, but I guess I just want a little clarity on when this takes place in the Wreck-It Ralph timeline. If King Candy is still in the ride, this means the ride takes place during the events of the movie. It’ll be interesting to see how they go about telling the story of the ride.
I’m excited for these two rides to open next year. I predicted that they would be featured in the Parks Panel and I’m glad I was right. However, some of the things I predicted would show up at the Parks Panel ended up not being announced. Let’s discuss them below.
My Other Predictions (That Didn’t Come True)

One of my biggest predictions was that they would release new concept art for the new Port Discovery and Adventureland reimaginings that they hinted at last year. There hasn’t been any new development on this since, but thinking about it now, it makes sense that they wouldn’t drop more details on this considering it’s a few years away. Also, Disney is trying to stay away from giving vague, blue sky ideas after revealing ideas of that nature at D23 Expo 2022 led to lukewarm fan reception, so that’s also probably why they didn’t announce or reveal anything about it.

But the smaller prediction that I thought could be announced at D23 was a replacement for Big Band Beat. Disney likes to announce smaller entertainment offerings at D23, just like what they did this year with Magic Happens returning to Disneyland. But I guess either they’re still developing the show or Tokyo Disney wants to eventually make that announcement themselves. Either way, I hope that theatre isn’t sitting empty for too long.
