If you clicked on this post, my guess is you’re trying to do the impossible. I’m not being melodramatic: it is almost impossible, if not downright impossible, to do every single ride in Disneyland and DCA in one day. It’s impossible because of one fact: the Disneyland Resort is the most attraction-dense Disney resort in the world. Disneyland alone has 35 rides. How can you possibly craft a Disneyland and California Adventure 1-Day itinerary that will allow you to do all those rides in 1 Day?
The short answer: you probably can’t. Unless you’re extremely lucky, don’t eat meals, run to every ride, and max out your Lightning Lane usage, I would say it’s almost impossible. Doing 1 park is hard enough, doing both in a day and thinking you’ll ride every single ride? Crazy, to say the least.

I’m not saying this to scare you, I’m saying this to be realistic. You probably won’t be able to do every attraction in the Disneyland Resort in a day. So the question then becomes, if I can’t do every attraction in a day, which ones should I prioritize during my trip? Well, figuring out which rides to prioritize and in what order you should do them is what this post is for!
In this Disneyland and DCA 1-Day Itinerary, I will go into detail on what rides I think you should ride if you only have one day at the parks. I will also go into detail on ways to save time in the parks, what you should do if you encounter unexpected road blocks, and other things that can enhance your overall visit to the parks. Let’s get started!

Introduction to the Parks and Itinerary

Opened in 1955, Disneyland is a hallmark of American culture. It paved the way for the modern theme park, introducing concepts and design standards that were eventually replicated in multiple Disney and non-Disney theme parks across the world. Its impact on pop culture cannot be overstated. It has captured the imagination of millions of visitors since it opened for the first time, and since 1955 it’s undergone its own fair share of changes.
In 2001, the standalone Disneyland theme park welcomed a new neighbor on the grounds of its former parking lot: Disney California Adventure or DCA. DCA, which was much maligned in its early years, has since blossomed into a park worthy of the Disney name. It also led to the development of the Downtown Disney District, as well as two hotels, the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa and the Pixar Place Hotel. Together with Disneyland and the Disneyland Hotel, one park soon became a sprawling resort.
As mentioned, the Disneyland Resort is the most attraction-rich Disney Resort in the world. A fact I like to throw around a lot to get a sense of the scale of Disneyland is this: Fantasyland at Disneyland alone has more rides than both Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. With so many rides in its lineup, it’s hard to come up with a solid plan. And even if you do come up with a solid plan, a lot of unexpected things may still happen.

Rides can suddenly close, shows can get cancelled, and crowd patterns can be unpredictable. You could have the best plan ever, but let me tell you, there’s a chance that by midday you’ve thrown your whole plan out the window. Now you must be thinking: if my plan is bound to fail, what’s the point of this post? I think this post should act like a blueprint from which you can build your plan, but more than having a good plan, I think it’s more important to have good planning.
You need to have good pivoting skills. If a ride you want to go on is temporarily closed, you need to ask yourself what you can do instead that will keep your plan on track for the most part and save you the most time? You have to be able to answer those questions well, and in my opinion the only way to answer those questions well is by doing your research. So congrats! You’re taking the first step to being prepared for the parks.
So let this itinerary act as a baseline for your plans. And do also know that, even if you’re not able to do everything on your to-do list, you’re still going to end up enjoying your day. A bad day at Disneyland is better than a fine day anywhere else, I can guarantee you that. Disney Parks are rewarding experiences even if you just walk around all day and do nothing. So don’t stress too much! You’re on vacation, after all.
Klook.comLightning Lanes (and Why You Need Them)

I know I’ve written separate 1-Day itineraries for both Disneyland and DCA, one itinerary that uses Lightning Lanes and one that doesn’t. Well, unfortunately, if you’re visiting both Disneyland and DCA in one day, then it’s non-negotiable: you need to purchase Lightning Lanes. If you’re only going for a day, and you want to do as many rides as possible, then there’s no question that you need to budget it into your trip.
For those of you who don’t know what Lightning Lane is, it is Disneyland’s and DCA’s paid skip-the-line service. I won’t cover it in depth because I have a whole separate post that goes into detail on how to use and maximize Lightning Lane (which you can find over here). Essentially, buying Lightning Lane Multi Pass gives you the opportunity to book Lightning Lanes for some attractions, which gives you access to a shortened queue for the attraction. How short that queue is will depend on the attraction.

It is absolutely crucial that, during your one-day visit to the parks, you use Lightning Lane. It has been proven that Lightning Lane allows you to experience more attractions in a day. If you want your best chance at doing all the must do rides at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, then you must purchase lightning lane.
As to the kind of lightning lane to purchase, I would recommend purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass, as well as a Single Pass for Rise of the Resistance. Because it has a single rider queue, I do not recommend buying the Single Pass for Radiator Springs Racers unless the single rider line is out the door. This itinerary will assume you’re buying Multi Pass and Single Pass for everyone in your party and will also tell you when to reserve them.
Klook.comNon-Ride Things to Note

Shows and Streetmosphere
This Disneyland and California Adventure 1-Day itinerary won’t include any streetmosphere entertainment, so nothing like the Dapper Dans or Five and Dime will be included in this itinerary. These shows aren’t main draws and stopping for them will just take away time you could’ve spent doing more of the headliners.
Klook.comCharacters
I know a lot of people like meeting characters. But if you only have one day to spare at both parks, then meeting characters has to be the lowest priority on your to-do list. Unless there’s a specific character you just have to meet, I would recommend avoiding them as sometimes you’ll end up waiting 45 minutes to an hour for a 30-second interaction. Disneyland is only open for about 14-16 hours. Spending one of them waiting for a character will just overload your day and your goal of trying to do the highlights in a day.
Klook.comDining

This Disneyland and California Adventure 1-Day Itinerary assumes that you will be dining at quick service restaurants for lunch and dinner. It also assumes you will snack 1-2 times the entire day. Unlike waiting for characters, food is essential, so it’s ok to spend time eating. That being said, dining at a table service restaurant will take up a lot of time as compared to quick service restaurants.
Because of this, I would recommend eating only at quick service (or counter service) restaurants where you can mobile order to save time. If you don’t know what mobile ordering is, it’s a way to reserve food ahead of time so you can claim it later with minimal wait. It’s available in most quick service eateries (for more info check out my post about Mobile Ordering at Disneyland).
Klook.comHeight Requirements and Ride Info
I won’t delve into ride-specific info such as ride descriptions and height requirements as I’ve written posts that already go over these topics. Read my Disneyland Ride Ranking, my Disneyland Ride and Attraction Guide, my Disney California Adventure Ride Ranking, and my DCA Ride and Attraction Guide for information on the rides, attractions, and shows at each park.
Klook.comPick and Choose The Rides and Attractions You Want to Experience

While I’m going to recommend a lot of headliner rides that I think are worth experiencing if you only have one day in the park, you obviously don’t have to stick to my word like its gospel truth. If there’s a ride I didn’t mention that you want to do, then by all means fit it into your schedule. Conversely, if there’s a ride you don’t want to do that I recommend you do, feel free to skip it and move on to another ride on your itinerary. At the end of the day, it’s your vacation, so you should do and experience what you really want to do and experience.
Klook.comDisneyland and California Adventure 1-Day Itinerary
Arrive at the Gates to Disneyland by 7am

It’s imperative that, if you want to get everything done, you need to be at Disneyland’s gates by around 7am. That means at the gates and not at the parking lot. The first 2-3 hours the park is open, also known as Rope Drop, is a crucial time in your Disney day because you get to go on a lot of the major rides with little to no wait. If you need more Rope Drop strategies, check out my Disneyland Rope Drop Strategy and my DCA Rope Drop Strategy.
Klook.comBook a Lightning Lane for Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT for 11am
Once your entire party has scanned into the park, be sure to immediately buy Lightning Lane and book the earliest return time for Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout. Since you started at Disneyland, that means the earliest you can get a Lightning Lane for DCA is 11am. Secure that Lightning Lane then line up near the entrance of Adventureland, which will be on the left of the hub (if you’re facing the castle).
Klook.comHead Inside an Ancient Temple on Indiana Jones Adventure

The first ride you’re going to ride is Indiana Jones Adventure. This is a jerky, chaotic, sometimes scary dark ride through an ancient temple with a secret curse on those who gaze into the eyes of the temple’s idol. It’s probably one of the roughest dark rides in the world, although its roughness doesn’t even come close to the Matterhorn’s. It’s a lot of fun, and is probably in the top 5 rides of the whole resort for me.
Once you’re done, head to the ride next door to Indiana Jones: The Jungle Cruise.
Klook.comCruise Down the Rivers of the World on the Jungle River Cruise

Head into the Jungle Navigation Company’s dock and board a boat for a relaxing 5 night cruise along the rivers of the world. Ok, it might not actually last 5 nights, but it is a great boat ride that’ll have you laughing (or cringing) depending on your penchant for dad jokes and puns. As an avid pun enjoyer, this is always a must-do every time I go to Disneyland. The humor on this ride is the main draw, with the skippers corny jokes adding a comedic flavor to the experience.
Once you’re done, we’re going to head to the wilderness on Big Thunder Mountain!
Klook.comExperience the Wilderness of Big Thunder Mountain

My personal favorite coaster in Disneyland Park, Big Thunder Mountain is a hoot and a half. You board a mine train and head deep into the Big Thunder mines. The story of the ride goes that, when prospectors struck gold on the mountain, it also awakened spirits who took control of the mine cars and made them race down their tracks. This is all just a convenient way to explain why the trains move like rollercoasters, but adding these stories in is the Disney difference, in my opinion. My favorite part is the third lift hill that has the exploding dynamite scene.
At this point it should be around 9:10am-9:15am. You’re knocking out rides on this Disneyland and California Adventure 1-Day Itinerary like a pro! Follow the Rivers of America clockwise to get to our next destination, which is a certain mansion up on a hill.
Klook.comMeet Ghosts at the Haunted Mansion

This is my personal favorite attraction in the entire resort. The immersion and storytelling you get in this attraction is as close to perfect as you can get. From the mansion’s pristine exterior to the ghoulish interiors, it’ll take you multiple ride-throughs to capture and absorb every detail of this place.
Its premise is simple: you’re taking a tour of an abandoned mansion. As you do, the ghosts slowly materialize in front of you, culminating in a dazzling graveyard scene that’ll have you humming “Grin Grinning Ghosts” for the rest of the day. It’s Disney at their best, so definitely make time to ride this classic attraction on your Disneyland and California Adventure 1-Day Itinerary.
Once you’re done, head to Bayou Country to ride the land’s signature ride!
Klook.comGo to the Bayou on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Formerly known as Splash Mountain, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a re-theme of the classic attraction into a Princess and the Frog themed attraction. I personally love this attraction, although I do think Splash Mountain is better by a hair. In the ride, which takes place a year after the events of the film, Tiana is hosting a Mardi Gras party but needs a band for the celebration. So she goes into the Bayou with you in the hopes that you can help her find a band. Incorporating classic songs like Almost There and Dig a Little Deeper, this ride will have you smiling from ear to ear.
Be warned though that this ride will get you VERY wet, especially if you sit in the first few rows. I always wear a poncho when going on this ride, and you’d be wise to do the same. Now before we go onto the next ride, there’s something you’re going to need to do first.
Klook.comGet a Lightning Lane for Incredicoaster
It should be around 10am now, meaning you can book your next Lightning Lane! I recommend booking one for Incredicoaster for around 1:30pm-2:30pm. You can book it a little earlier or later than that, but don’t go earlier than 1pm and later than 3pm.
See Jack Sparrow on Pirates of the Caribbean

Now we’re going to my third favorite attraction on this list. There are a few reasons why I think you should end your rope drop time with this attraction. First off, it’s at least 20 minutes long, so doing it at the beginning of rope drop means you lose some valuable time because of how long the attraction is. Second, it usually doesn’t get a long line till about 11am, so it should be good to do now. You could also do it at the end of the night if you wish.
In the ride, you’re transported back in time several hundred years to when Pirates sailed the high seas. You start off in a cavern filled with skeletons and pirate treasure before entering a Spanish colonial town being ravaged by pirates. In the midst of this chaos you’ll see captain Jack Sparrow trying to access the secret pirate treasure hidden in the town. It’s immersive scenes, life-like animatronics, and captivating story make this a must do at Disneyland.
After heading to the Caribbean, you’ll next go to Fantasyland to ride the most iconic Disneyland coaster.
Klook.comSled Down Matterhorn Mountain (Single Rider)

It’ll take you about 10 minutes to walk to the Matterhorn, and hopefully the single rider line shouldn’t be that long since it’s technically still rope drop. If it’s extending outside the queue, however, save this for later. If it isn’t long, then head towards the single rider entrance of this ride.
The Matterhorn is the first steel tubular rollercoaster in the world. Every other steel coaster in every other theme and amusement park in the world is borne out of the Matterhorn’s innovativeness. In the ride, you sled down a snowy mountain, narrowly missing the yeti that hides in the mountain’s caves. Let me warn you: this is the roughest ride in the entire resort. There’s a reason it’s called “The Chiropractor”. If you have back issues, definitely don’t ride it.
Once you’re done, it should be 11am! Hope on over to DCA to continue this Disneyland and California Adventure 1-day itinerary.
Klook.comHop Over to DCA and Do Mission BREAKOUT

It’s time to use your first Lightning Lane! Head to Avengers Campus via Hollywoodland and go on Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! Themed to the hit Marvel franchise, this ride has you entering The Collectors fortress to view his latest acquisition: the Guardians of the Galaxy.
In the pre-show, you meet Rocket Raccoon and team up with him to free the other Guardians. The ride has you rising and falling at rapid speeds as you and Rocket save the Guardians. You will hear 1 of 6 possible songs on the ride, with my favorite one being I Want You Back by the Jackson 5. The ride is fun, chaotic, and full of energy. Trust me, you’ll be glad you went on it.
Before the next ride though, we need to do a couple of things.
Klook.comMobile Order Lunch at Cocina Cucamonga
Once you’re done with Mission Breakout, go on the Disneyland app and mobile order food from Cocina Cucamonga. I always get the Birria Tacos, but all their options are very good. You can also get food from Lucky Fortune Cookery or Aunt Cass Cafe. Make sure your pick-up time is at around 12:30pm-12:45pm
Get a World of Color Virtual Queue
At 12pm, you’re going to want to get a World of Color Virtual Queue. You can also do this via the app. Keep refreshing the page a few seconds before 12pm and click the join virtual queue button as soon as it appears. Hopefully you score a virtual queue for the 9pm showing of World of Color.
Klook.comSling Webs on Web Slingers (Single Rider)

Next you’re going to the other attraction in Avengers Campus. Web Slingers is a shooter ride that has you slinging webs to help Spider-Man neutralize the Spider Bots. As the story goes, during an Open House for the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, Peter Parker’s inventions, the Spider Bots, get stuck on self-replication mode. They start to multiply rapidly, and Peter calls Spider-Man for help. Spider-Man enlists your help to neutralize the bots, and soon you’re on your vehicle, shooting webs at Spider-bots and helping Spider-Man save the day.
I’ve ridden this so many times and let me tell you, it’s an arm workout every time. Remember that the golden spider-bots have the most points. I always hit a lot of them and end up getting over 250,000 points. Once you’re done here, head to San Fransokyo Square to pick up your mobile order.
Klook.comEat Lunch at San Fransokyo Square
San Fransokyo can get pretty crowded at lunch time. If you find that it’s crowded, you can take your food to Flo’s V8 Cafe in Cars Land. There are also tables inside the bakery tour that I have been able to get even when it’s very crowded.
Race on Radiator Springs Racers (Single Rider)

Next you’re going on my favorite California Adventure attraction. It’s best to do single rider for this. Hopefully enough people are at lunch that there isn’t too much of a line. If there is, consider buying the Lightning Lane Single Pass for it as it usually is cheaper than the Rise of the Resistance Lightning Lane Single Pass. This is the marquee attraction of Cars Land, and it has you playing the role of a racer who goes to Radiator Springs for a big race. After walking through the queue, you enter the ride vehicle and begin your journey through Radiatory Springs.
After a couple of dark ride segments, including going tractor-tipping with Mater and going through either Luigi’s Tire Shop or Ramone’s Paint Shop, you then race against another car outside along the back part of Cars Land. Its combination of both dark ride and thrill ride make it a ride unlike any other. It’s the best ride in DCA, and one you shouldn’t miss.
Klook.comGet a Lightning Lane for Toy Story Midway Mania
After riding Radiator Springs Racers, or whenever you can book another Lightning Lane, book one for Toy Story Midway Mania. If the return time is far out, do the refresh technique that you learned from my post about Lightning Lanes at Disneyland to get a more favorable return time. Then, head to Grizzly Peak to continue this Disneyland and California Adventure 1-Day Itinerary.
Fly on Soarin (Single Rider)

Hopefully, the single rider line for Soarin is open and you get to ride it through the single rider queue. I have encountered it being closed sometimes, but if it is closed when you first try to ride it, give it about another hour and you should be able to enter the single rider line.
Soarin’s basic premise is you get in a hang glider and rise above the clouds to fly over various scenes from locales around the world. There are currently three versions of Soarin: Soarin Over California, Soarin Around the World, and Soarin Across America. Which one you get will depend on when you visit the park. Any of the versions are incredible, though, and it’s the one ride from DCA 1.0 that resonated with guests. It’s my second favorite DCA attraction, and its score is one of the best theme park scores of all time.
Next head to Pixar Pier to ride the best coaster in the resort.
Klook.comSave Jack-Jack on the Incredicoaster

Next you’re going to use your Lightning Lane for the Incredicoaster. Previously known as California Screamin’, Incredicoaster is the main attraction of Pixar Pier. It follows the Incredibles who, as the story goes, are having a coaster dedicated to them. However, as you’re riding the coaster, Jack-Jack, the youngest member of the Incredibles family, gets loose and starts teleporting all over the coaster. As you go through the coaster, you see the rest of the Incredibles trying to get him back. It’s a clever narrative that makes good use of the coaster and its elements.
This is a top 5 DCA ride for me, and one that you shouldn’t miss on this Disneyland and California Adventure 1-Day Itinerary. Be warned though that it does include a loop, so if that is something that may be too thrilling for you, you may need to sit this one out. Once you’re done, head out of Pixar Pier, past the main archway, and head for The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure.
Klook.comGo Under the Sea in The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure

Next, we’re going to ride one of my personal favorite attractions in DCA. The Little Mermaid, as the name suggests, follows the story of the film of the same name. We board a clamshell and follow Ariel as she goes on her journey to become a human. Along the way we’re treated to incredible scenes with hundreds of animatronics telling Ariel’s story. The Under the Sea scene alone is worth lining up for! The Ursula animatronic that appears halfway through the ride is also spectacular. While it has some narrative lapses and pacing issues, I think it’s still a solid ride.
You shouldn’t wait more than 25 minutes for this at this point of the Disneyland and California Adventure 1-Day Itinerary. Once you’re done heading under the sea, head down Paradise Gardens Park until you get to Goofy’s Sky School, the next stop on this itinerary.
Klook.comFly with Goofy on Goofy’s Sky School (Single Rider)

For this ride, you’re going to want to get in the single rider queue. It usually moves pretty quickly, and you should be on the ride in 10-15 minutes. Goofy’s Sky School is a wild mouse coaster that is honestly one of the scariest rides in the park. Not because it’s a thrilling ride (Incredicoaster is a lot more thrilling) but because you feel like you’re going to fly off the ride vehicle when you’re in the upper part of the attraction. It also has a pretty heart-stopping drop.
The story of the ride surrounds Goofy as he tries to teach us how to fly, with there being billboards scattered throughout the attraction that act as theming and story elements. It’s all good fun, and is a must do for me every time I’m in DCA.
Klook.comBook a Lightning Lane for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Once you’re done, it should be time for you to book your next Lightning Lane. Grab one for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway as soon as you can book one. This might be now or it might be earlier or later. Whenever it is, make sure you get one for about 5:30pm.
Ride Toy Story Midway Mania

The second, and better, shooting gallery ride in DCA, Toy Story Midway Mania is a carnival game-type ride that features the Toy Story characters. In the ride, you’ll compete in a few mini-games such as a ring toss and a pop-the-balloon game, all culminating in a Woody’s Roundup game where you have to shoot bullseye targets to score points. At the end you’ll be able to see if your score is the best in the vehicle, the best of the hour, day, and month. It’s my favorite shooting ride in the resort, and probably of all time.
We’ve got one more DCA ride to do before we hop over to Disneyland again! Let’s make our way to Hollywoodland and get transported to Monstropolis.
Klook.comUse the Buddy Pass to ride Monsters Inc, Mike and Sulley to the Rescue
To ride Monsters Inc, we’re going to use the Buddy Pass. The Buddy Pass is a skip-the-line option for groups of 2 adults or 1 adult and either 1 or 2 kids where you get to ride in the back row of an attraction that offers it and experience a shorter overall wait. It kind of works like single rider in that sense. To use it, just approach the cast member at the entrance of the attraction and tell them you want to use the Buddy Pass. You’ll then be directed through the exit and onto the ride.
The ride basically retells the story of Monsters Inc, but with better pacing than the Little Mermaid ride. Like Little Mermaid it also has very good quality animatronics, as well as detailed and immersive show scenes. The door vault scene is the standout scene of the ride. This is also a must do for me every time I go, and is the last DCA ride on this Disneyland and California Adventure 1-Day Itinerary.
Klook.comHop Back to Disneyland and do Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and Snow White’s Enchanted Wish

After riding Monsters Inc, head back to Disneyland and go to Fantasyland. Once there, get on Snow White’s Enchanted Wish and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. These are two of my absolute favorite dark rides anywhere. They’re both so immersive and really take you into the world of the movies they retell.
They both also have spectacular endings, with the Snow White ending being fantastic and the Mr. Toad one being controversial yet surprising. I highly recommend riding all the Fantasyland dark rides, but don’t worry as we’ll ride the other ones later on in this itinerary. Once you’re done, it’s time to head to Toontown to use our next Lightning Lane!
Klook.comRide Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Up next is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. This is the second trackless dark ride in Disneyland, and one of my personal favorite rides. It takes place in the El Capitoon Theater and has what is probably the best queue of any ride in Disneyland (or tied with Indiana Jones). The queue contains props, costumes, and posters from Mickey Mouse shorts scattered throughout. You then enter the pre-show where you’re transported into the cartoon world.
The ride follows Mickey and Minnie after they accidentally separate the guests from Goofy’s train engine, making their cars jump the tracks. Mickey and Minnie must now get the riders back to safety. Along the way they traverse different sets including a carnival, the wild west, the tropics, and a city. It’s a fun, immersive, and technologically impressive ride that’ll have you smiling from ear to ear.
Once you’ve used this Lightning Lane, it’ll be time to get another one.
Klook.comGet a Lightning Lane for Space Mountain

Now there’s a caveat with this step. Space Mountain seems to run out of Lightning Lanes pretty early in the day. If it seems like it’s going to run out faster than Runaway Railway, I would suggest booking a Space Mountain Lightning Lane first and then doing Runaway Railway later on in the night. You could also get a Lightning Lane for Runaway Railway and then do Single Rider for Space Mountain, but keep in mind the Space Mountain single rider line can get long and closes early. Whatever you decide, you must get one or the other and then do the one you don’t pick later in the day.
Klook.comSail Past the World on It’s a Small World

Next you’re going to be riding It’s a Small World. The reputation of this ride precedes it, mostly for the song a lot of people find annoying. But in my opinion it’s one of the best and most original Disney attraction concepts ever. Its theme of world peace as expressed by the one song sung in different languages and by the relative uniformity of all the dolls is executed to perfection. You’ll travel past countries from Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Oceania and you’ll even be able to spot Disney characters in their specific countries!
It shouldn’t take you more than 15 minutes to wait for this attraction. Keep in mind that when It’s a Small World Holiday is running, you may want to get a Lightning Lane for this as the wait times can balloon to over an hour during the holidays.
Klook.comMobile Order Food at Red Rose Tavern
Next you’re going to mobile order food! I recommend Red Rose Tavern, Galactic Grill, or Bengal Barbecue for dinner. Once you’ve successfully mobile ordered on the app, you’re going to need to purchase another Lightning Lane.
Pay for a Lightning Lane for Rise of the Resistance
This Lightning Lane may be expensive, but I think it’s well worth it as it will save you a bunch of time in line. At this point the line for Rise of the Resistance is up to 45 minutes or more. Saving all that time in line will mean room to do more attractions later on. So quickly snatch that up and make your way over there (usually the return time is just a couple minutes away from when you booked, so you may head over there now).
Klook.comProtect the Resistance on Rise of the Resistance

This is, without a doubt, the most narratively complex and jaw dropping ride Disney has ever made. It has 3 pre-shows that set up the story before the actual ride. Those pre-shows are all groundbreaking in their own way, especially the second one when you’re on the transport ship. The ride itself is spectacular, with many different surprises and mind-boggling special effects that will have you asking “how did they do that”? It’s my second favorite ride in the resort, but even I have to admit that it’s probably the most immersive ride Disney has ever done in the US Disney Parks.
You shouldn’t wait more than 5 minutes to get into the first pre-show. I always recommend doing this via Lightning Lane because, in case it breaks down when you’re lining up for it, you’ll get a free multi-experience pass to come back and ride it again, which you won’t get if you wait in the standby line. The ride and its pre-shows are also long, so any time you could save when riding this will bode well for your Disneyland and California Adventure 1-Day Itinerary.
Klook.comPilot the Millennium Falcon on Smugglers Run (Single Rider)

Next we’re going to the other ride in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge: Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run. In this ride, you’ll be in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon as you and your team pilot the Falcon to successfully complete missions. It’s basically another game attraction but this time you’re not just shooting but also trying to fly the Falcon. It’s a good ride, but not one of the headliners of the park.
If the line is shorter than 15 minutes, I’d recommend just lining up in the regular queue. If you line up in the Single rider queue, you will probably be assigned as the Engineer, which is the worst role in the ride. If you want a chance of being the pilot, then definitely join the regular queue.
Klook.comHave Dinner at Red Rose Tavern / Galactic Grill / Bengal Barbecue
Once you’re done with the two Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge rides, it’s time for dinner! It should be around 7:45 now, so quickly eat dinner and then make your way back to Disney California Adventure to watch World of Color and end the DCA part of this Disneyland and California Adventure 1-Day Itinerary.
Head Back to DCA for World of Color

World of Color should start at 9pm, and you should be arriving at the reserved viewing area around 8:30pm-8:45pm. You probably won’t get a front row spot unless you’re in the splash zone, but since you’re still up front, your view should still be good. You could stay in the splash zone up front, but I’d only recommend doing so if you have ponchos for you and your group.
World of Color is a light, sound, laser, and water show set to classic Disney music. It’s one of my favorite nighttime spectaculars in any park. It was revolutionary when it opened way back in 2010, and has since spawned a number of other versions like Winter Dreams, Season of Light, Happiness, One, Celebrate, and Villainous. Whichever version you end up seeing, you’re guaranteed to have an amazing time. It truly is a magical show that everyone should get to experience.
Klook.comWatch the Fireworks from Main Street

The timing of this next one will be a little tricky. As soon as World of Color ends, you’re going to make a beeline for Disneyland. Hopefully you walk fast enough that you can arrive on Main Street before the fireworks start. If not, you may just miss the first 2-3 minutes, which is fine. If there’s no space on Main Street, walk up and down until you see a gap in the crowd and then enter that gap. If you’d rather not deal with the crowds though, you could watch from the esplanade in between the two parks. But take note music does not play here.
The Disneyland fireworks shows are always amazing. My favorites include Disneyland Forever and Wondrous Journeys. They will bring a tear to your eye as the use of Disney songs, pyrotechnics, and projections is sure to be very moving. It’s one of the best ways, if not the best way, to end a day at Disneyland. I highly recommend watching them on your Disneyland and California Adventure 1-Day Itinerary.
Klook.comRide the Tomorrowland Rides (Space Mountain, Star Tours, and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters)

After the fireworks ends, make a beeline for Tomorrowland. If you haven’t ridden Space Mountain yet, now is the time to do so with your Lightning Lane or in the Single Rider queue. Then, after Space Mountain, do Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and Star Tours in that order. If you did Space Mountain earlier and haven’t done Runaway Railway, ride Star Tours and Buzz Lightyear first and then head to Toontown to ride Runaway Railway.
Space Mountain is a thrilling rollercoaster that takes place almost entirely in the dark. In the ride you’ll board a rocket ship and twist and turn through the cosmos. It’s a fun ride, and is many people’s favorite ride in the park. Sometimes it’ll even have a Star Wars overlay called Hyperspace Mountain where you’re caught in the middle of a fight between the Empire and the Rebels. It’s a classic Disney experience that you’ll be glad you got in line for.

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is a shooting dark ride that has you becoming a space ranger to save the galaxy from the Evil Emperor Zurg. Zurg plans on stealing toys’ batteries and creating a secret weapon to subjugate the galaxy. It’s up to you to find Zurg’s robots and blast their targets to neutralize them. It’s a fun, immersive ride with multiple animatronics and moving set pieces. It’s my second favorite shooter at the resort, and would be my favorite if they updated it and gave it a fresh coat of paint.
Finally, Star Tours is a motion simulator ride that transports you right in the middle of the Star Wars universe. You board a transport vehicle when it’s revealed that one of your fellow passengers is a rebel spy. You then embark on a journey to get the rebel spy to safety, passing many different Star Wars worlds along the way. Be warned, while this ride is fun, you may get motion sickness. Be sure to take the appropriate medication if you suffer from motion sickness and want to ride this ride.
Klook.comFinish the Day with Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan’s Flight

For your last two rides of the day, I would recommend riding Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan’s Flight in Fantasyland. Start with Alice and end with Peter. Remember also that Disneyland will let you ride a ride if you get in line even a minute before it closes, so as long as you’re in Peter Pan’s line before the official closing time, you should be able to ride it.
Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan closely follow the stories of the films they’re based on, but they both have unique aspects of their attractions that make them must ride experiences. Alice in Wonderland has an outdoors section that takes you from the second floor of the attraction to the first, while Peter Pan’s Flight is a suspended dark ride that has you soaring over the show scenes of the ride. They’re both generational rides that contain some of the most iconic dark ride scenes ever.
Once you’re done with them, congratulations! You’ve officially done both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure in one day! Pat yourself on the back by doing some shopping on Main Street before making your way back to your car.
Klook.comDisneyland and California Adventure 1-Day Itinerary Conclusion

While a Disneyland and California Adventure 1-Day Itinerary may seem impossible and daunting, it is totally doable as long as you do your research ahead of time and have good planning skills. Also remember that your day is not going to go perfectly. It wouldn’t be a Disney day if everything went according to plan. Learn to pivot and think on the fly and you should be fine. Lastly, have the best time at Disneyland and DCA
