Meal Vouchers at Hong Kong Disneyland cover

If you’re planning a Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL) trip, you’ve probably come across these meal vouchers on the Hong Kong Disneyland website or on third party websites. At face value, they seem like a good deal. Bundling your lunch, dinner, and a snack at the park seems like it’ll save you a lot of money. But are the meal vouchers at Hong Kong Disneyland really worth it? And if they are, how do you go about using them? Well this post will hopefully answer those questions and more!

I’ve personally used these meal vouchers on recent trips to Hong Kong Disneyland, so I have first hand experience and opinions about this dining deal. In this post I will go into detail on the kind of value these vouchers create, whether they are worth purchasing, and how to use them when you get to the park.

What is a Meal Voucher at Hong Kong Disneyland and What’s Included?

A meal voucher at Hong Kong Disneyland is a coupon that you can use to redeem a lunch meal and/or a dinner meal from a participating quick service restaurant, as well as a snack from any of the many snack carts at the park. They come in two variations: as a Lunch or Dinner Meal + Snack combo and a Lunch AND Dinner meal + snack combo.

The former means that you can only purchase either a lunch OR a dinner with the coupon, not both, which can be useful for those who only plan to stay in the park for half the day. The latter means you get both lunch AND dinner with the coupon, which is useful for those who plan to spend the entire day at the park.

Lunch is defined as a meal from park open until 4pm while dinner is defined as a meal from 4:30pm to closing. The snack is defined as either a frozen ice cream bar or a popcorn from any outdoor vending cart. Additionally, the voucher also includes HK$5 off of any soft serve in the park.

Once you purchase the meal vouchers, the vouchers should indicate until when you can use them. Upon checking, the vouchers I bought for my last trip had a validity of three months. There is also a child’s meal voucher that you can get for a lower price, however it only comes with one child’s meal. It does not come with a snack or HK$5 off on soft serve.

Where You Can Buy a Meal Voucher

You can buy a meal voucher from the Hong Kong Disneyland website and from third party websites like Klook. I would highly recommend buying from Klook as they are usually a little cheaper than buying from the HKDL website. I have an affiliate link you can use to buy these vouchers. Additionally, the 1 meal Lunch or Dinner voucher, as well as the child’s meal voucher, can only be booked on Klook and cannot be found on the HKDL website. So if you want to buy those vouchers, I would highly recommend checking out my link.

How Much the Meal Voucher Costs and Where You Can Use It

On the Hong Kong Disneyland Website, the 3-in-1 park meal voucher, or the Lunch and Dinner plus snack voucher, costs HK$315. On Klook, that same voucher costs, as of this writing, HK$293. The Lunch OR Dinner plus snack voucher on Klook costs HK$182, while the child voucher costs HK$106

You can use the lunch and dinner vouchers in the following quick service restaurants: Starliner Diner and Comet Cafe in Tomorrowland, Clopin’s Festival of Foods and Royal Banquet Hall in Fantasyland, Wayfinder’s Table in Adventureland, and Golden Crocus Inn in World of Frozen. You can claim the popcorn or ice cream at any outdoor vending cart. The HK$5 off on soft serve can be used at Midtown Delights on Main Street, NRG POD in Tomorrowland, Jessie’s Snack Roundup in Toy Story land, Northern Delights in World of Frozen, and Lucky Nugget Saloon in Grizzly Gulch.

How the Meal Vouchers Work and How to Make the Most Out of Them

Using these vouchers can be a bit tricky. Each lunch and dinner voucher is worth HK$160. That means that to maximize the value of the voucher, you must purchase a meal worth HK$160 or more at the participating restaurants. Using it on anything less than HK$160 will mean the value of the voucher will degrade and you won’t be able to maximize the HK$50 in savings that the voucher gets you.

Do note that, if you order something above HK$160, you will have to pay the difference between the voucher and the cost of the meal. So if I order something at a restaurant worth HK$170, I will need to pay HK$10 upon checkout. You’ll still retain the value of the voucher if you do this, however, so I’d recommend buying up instead of buying down.

Do note that these vouchers are combo vouchers, meaning they also come with a drink. Based on my experience this can either be a soda fountain drink or bottled water. You could buy one of the specialty juices that the resort sells, but you will need to pay extra for this.

Any of the regular ice creams, such as the Mickey Ice Cream Bar, the Stitch paw bar, and the LinaBell bar, are included in the voucher. Do note that you can only claim one snack a day, so if you want more you’re going to have to pay for the additional ones yourself.

To use the voucher, simply present the coupon to the cast member manning the cashier. They’re going to scan your coupon with a machine and confirm the price of the meal you ordered. If you bought a meal for over the HK$160 amount, they will ask you to pay the price difference.

Should You Buy the Meal Voucher at Hong Kong Disneyland?

The answer to this question will depend on your budget and your willingness to be flexible. If you’re willing to stick to the meals that are priced at HK$160, then buying the meal vouchers could be well worth it. However, this severely limits the number of meals you can order. Not every dish is priced at HK$160, and most of them are under that, meaning you’ll lose some of the value of the voucher.

If you’re ok with being limited by the price of the voucher, and don’t mind skipping or not being able to eat some of the meals in the park, then by all means use the voucher. But if you’re the kind of park-goer who likes to explore the different culinary options at the park, then maybe this voucher isn’t for you.

This voucher is also not for you if you plan on eating more meals at the park. If you wanted a full meal for a snack, for example, then you wouldn’t be able to use the voucher to pay for that meal. However, if you only plan on eating lunch and dinner and using your snack credit to tide you over between the two meals, then this voucher could be useful to you.

If you’re on a tight budget and need to save any way you can, then buying this meal voucher may be worth it for you. HK$50 in savings a day is no small number, and if you’re in a large group that number can really add up. So if you need to save money, I would recommend getting this voucher.

There’s no one size fits all answer to this question. The answer will depend on your needs and the needs of your group. That being said, I believe in the thought that a Disney vacation should not be expensive. You should not have to pay an arm and a leg to visit the parks. Disney should be accessible to as many people as possible, and if this meal voucher is one way to make the experience more affordable for families, then I’m all for it.
