Tokyo Disneyland has revealed the names of its two currently under construction Tomorrowland projects. Those two projects, the new Space Mountain and the upcoming Wreck-It Ralph shooter attraction, will open in 2027. Tokyo Disneyland has also revealed a lot more about the space in front of Space Mountain that is also under construction, including its name and what the space will eventually look like. This article will break down all the announcements made today and will give some commentary on these announcements as well.

Space Mountain Name Revealed
The new Space Mountain name has officially been confirmed to be “Space Mountain Earthrise”. The attraction will include a new story and a new ride system. Space Mountain Earthrise will also feature a launch at the beginning of the coaster that will propel you from earth to space, as well as light and sound effects that will simulate galactic objects and systems whizzing by you. It’ll also feature on-board audio in a first for a rollercoaster at the Tokyo Disney Resort. The concept for the new Space Mountain, whose name is derived from the view of earth from the moon where the earth “rises” like the sun, will be unique among the Disney Parks. Space Mountain Earthrise debuts in 2027.
In front of Space Mountain Earthrise will be a large themed area called Tomorrowland Plaza. It’s theme revolves around man’s relationship with nature, incorporating design elements inspired by natural elements such as fire, water, earth, and wood. There will be a quick service restaurant in this plaza called Element Express that will serve snacks and drinks in a relaxed setting. When night falls, the area will come alive with lights and sounds.
Wreck-It Ralph Ride Name Revealed
The Wreck-It Ralph themed attraction, on the other hand is going to be called “Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue”. This is a shooter attraction that will replace the former Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters attraction. It will be the first attraction themed to Wreck-It Ralph in any Disney Park. In the ride, guests will team up with Ralph and Vanellope to save Sugar Rush from Sugar Bugs, which are glitches created by the main antagonist of the movie King Candy. The ride will debut in Spring 2027 and will feature a shop called Pixel Prism that will sell merchandise inspired by the attraction, as well as a new popcorn cart called Popping Station.
Commentary on the News
I think that both names suit their respective attractions well. The Space Mountain name in particular is great and seems to promise a very thrilling, out of this world adventure. Having guests blast off from earth to the cosmos is an original concept for a Space Mountain and I’m excited to find out how they will achieve this. I also love how it seems to be an entirely original story for a Space Mountain, even if the basic concept is still the same. The core experience is preserved but has been given an all-new skin, which I find very exciting.
The Tomorrowland Plaza looks very futuristic but also very grounded. It seems to be going for a nature-integrated future aesthetic, which I thinks works really well for the area. It gives Tomorrowland a lot of character and a sense of place that I think was missing from the previous iteration of Tomorrowland. Now I hope they re-do the rest of Tomorrowland to fit this aesthetic as well.
The Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue name is both cute and very apt for the ride experience and story. I’m going to admit I was scared that Disney would give this ride an uninspired name, slapping the word Adventure on it and calling it a day. I was fully expecting it to be called “Vanellope’s Sugar Rush Adventure”. I’m glad this isn’t the case. I also like that the story expands on the world of the movie and seems to be incorporating interactive technology that has never been used before in a Disney attraction. What this entails exactly has not been revealed yet, but I am excited to learn more about this ride in the coming months.
Overall, I love the announcements that were unveiled today. The future of Tomorrowland at Tokyo Disneyland is bright, and I can’t wait to experience these attraction for myself.
