park hopping at Disneyland cover

Park Hopping has been part of the Disneyland Resort guest experience for decades. It’s a great way to see both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure (DCA) on the same day if you only have a limited time to spend at the resort. But with park hopping at Disneyland costing hundreds of dollars per person, is it even worth purchasing this ticket add-on? That’s what we’re going to discuss in this post.

In this post I will detail what park hopping is, if it’s right for you and your family or group, how you can maximize it to its fullest potential, and what the general rules are for park hopping. Basically, I’ll be giving you all my tips and tricks for how to use your park hopping add on. I’ll even throw in why I think Park Hopping at Disneyland is a lot more “worth it” than Park Hopping at Walt Disney World.

Without further ado, let’s begin!

What is Park Hopping?

Park Hopping at Disneyland is a ticket add-on that allows you to “hop” between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure as many times as you want for the duration of your ticket. This means that if you purchase the Park Hopping add-on, you will get this benefit for every day of your ticket. There is currently no way to only buy it for certain days of your ticket. There are certain rules you need to follow if you would like to park hop, which I will explain below.

Park Hopping Rules and Disneyland Park Hopping Time

As of April 2026, the most important Disneyland Park Hopping rule is that, until 11am, you can only access the park you made a reservation for. That means that you can only use your park hopping perk at 11am. This rule is set to be rescinded sometime in 2026, but for now the rule is still in place. This will affect things like mobile ordering and lightning lanes. If you want to get a mobile order or lightning lane for the other park, you’ll need to reserve a time that is past 11am.

Difference Between Park Hopping at Disneyland and at Walt Disney World

The biggest difference between park hopping at Disneyland compared to Walt Disney World is that at Walt Disney World there is no park hopping time rule like at Disneyland. At Walt Disney World you may park hop at any time you wish, while as mentioned at Disneyland you can only park hop after 11am.

But that’s where the advantages of Walt Disney World park hopping end. The biggest thing Disneyland has going for it is that it takes less than a minute to park hop from Disneyland to DCA. At Walt Disney World, the parks are more spread out. Depending on which park you want to hop to and what park you’re currently in, it can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour to park hop.

That means you lose a lot of valuable park time if you decide to hop between parks at Walt Disney World. While at Disneyland you can be at the gate of the other park in less than 2 minutes. Because of this, if you were going to Walt Disney World or Disneyland and were considering buying park hoppers, I would say you get better value at Disneyland than at Walt Disney World because of all the time you save.

Cost of Park Hopping

The cost of adding Park Hopping to your Disneyland ticket will depend on how many days your ticket has. As mentioned, if you want to buy the Park Hopping add-on, you must buy it for every day of your ticket. It is not currently possible to only buy it for certain days of your ticket. It’s an all or nothing situation when it comes to park hopping.

At Disneyland, park hopping for 1-day tickets will cost anywhere from $70-$90 depending on the cost of your ticket. This is the only kind of ticket where the cost of park hopping varies, mostly due to the fact that 1-Day tickets vary in price depending on when you decide to go. The other tickets are sold with a fixed price per day, meaning the park hopping add-on also comes at a set amount. For multi-day tickets the price is PER TICKET, not per day.

The Park Hopping add-on for 2-Day tickets cost $100. Park Hopping for 3-Day tickets cost $110. Park Hopping for 4-Day tickets cost $120. And finally, Park Hopping for 5-Day tickets cost $135. While the price does increase as the number of days you buy increases, do note that the per day price of Park Hopping does decrease the more days you buy. Also note that this price is per ticket, not per transaction. If you have 4 adults in your party and you want to buy Park Hopping for 3-Day tickets, you will pay an additional $110 a person.

Is Park Hopping Included in Your Magic Key?

The Park Hopping add-on is included in your Magic Key, should you decide to purchase one. You don’t have to pay anything extra to park hop with a Magic Key. However, just like with regular tickets, you still need to abide by the 11am rule. Yes, even Magic Keyholders can only park hop at 11am. However, it is expected that this rule will also be rescinded for Magic Keyholders when it is also rescinded for regular ticket holders.

Am I Guaranteed Admission to Either Park with a Park Hopper?

park hopping at Disneyland jessie

Because you made a park reservation for the day, and because Disneyland is still limiting the amount of people that can make park reservations, you are guaranteed admission to both Disneyland and DCA at any time. This is a departure from pre-COVID operations where, since park reservations were not enforced, you weren’t guaranteed entry into Disneyland or California Adventure during some days in peak season if the parks got too busy. With the reservation system, you are guaranteed park entry to both parks if you bought the park hopper ticket.

How Park Hopping Works at Disneyland

park hopping at Disneyland inside

Park hopping at Disneyland works the same way as entering a park. Once you’ve had your face scanned by the machines at the turnstiles on the first day of your ticket, all you have to do to park hop is show up at the gates after 11am, scan your ticket, let the machine scan your face, and then you’re free to enter the park. It’s a simple process, and like I mentioned there’s no limit to how many times you can hop on a given day.

If you happen to arrive at the resort after 11am, and you purchased the park hopper option, then you may start your day at either park. You can park hop until the park that closes earlier closes for the day. Normally this is Disney California Adventure, but sometimes Disneyland may close early for after-hours events. If an after-hours event is going on, you can only access the event with a separate ticket, even if you bought the Park Hopper add-on for your ticket.

Is Park Hopping Worth It?

I say that, at Disneyland, park hopping is worth it. There are two main reasons why I think it’s worth it. The first is because the parks are so close together that you don’t waste any time park hopping between them, unlike at Walt Disney World where you lose a significant chunk of time if you decide to park hop. Park hopping is quick and easy at Disneyland, allowing you to experience more attractions in a single day.

It’s also worth it because you can park-hop as many times as you want in a given day. The most I’ve ever park hopped in a day using my Magic Key was 8 times. You can go back and forth as many times as you want every single day with the Park Hopping add-on. This makes it worth it in my opinion, unlike at Disney World where you can only park-hop a couple of times because of how long it takes to do so.

It’s also good to have if your visit overlaps with an after-hours event. If you’re in a park that closes at 6pm because of an after-hours event, it doesn’t mean your visit ends at 6pm. You can conveniently park hop to the other park and stay there for the rest of the night if you bought the Park Hopping add-on. That being said, if you’re only going to buy it because your visit overlaps with 1 after hours event date, then it might not be worth it if you weren’t planning on using it for other days of your trip.

Speaking of dates, I would say that park hopping at Disneyland is only worth it if you have tickets with 3 days or less. I wouldn’t recommend buying the Park Hopping add-on for 4 or 5 day tickets generally because you already have enough time to explore both parks thoroughly. With 4 or 5 days at Disneyland, you’ll be able to explore the parks without rushing, meaning there’s no need to park hop. Only buy the Park Hopper add-on if you’re in a time crunch or if you feel like you’ll get more out of your day by purchasing it.
