Hong Kong Disneyland Announces New Pixar Summer Fest to Begin in June!

Hong Kong Disneyland released its fiscal 2025 results today. As part of the announcement, they gave updates on upcoming events, specifically Pixar Summer Fest, as well as the first opening timeline for their upcoming Pixar-themed expansion. This post will go over all the announcements that were made today, and I will also give some commentary on what I think of these announcements. Let’s dive in!

Hong Kong Disneyland announced that an all-new Pixar summer event called Pixar Summer Fest will debut on June 12. If you’ve been keeping up with HKDL news, that is 5 days after the end of the 20th anniversary celebration. The Pixar Summer Fest will bring with it a lot of new and old offerings, including the return of the Pixar Water Play Street Party to the park. It is unclear if the park’s new parade Friendtastic will be put on pause while the event is going on, but presumably it will still run concurrently with this returning parade.

The biggest news about Pixar Summer Fest, however, is that an all-new Pixar-themed drone show called the Pixar Pals Spectacular will debut on June 12 as well. This drone show will take place before Momentous every single night and will include classic Pixar characters and music. Themed merchandise items and food and beverage offerings created exclusively or the event will also be available for guests to purchase and partake in.

Even though I won’t be visiting Hong Kong Disneyland for this event, I am excited that the park seems to have a plan to build on their 20th anniversary event and the opening of World of Frozen. The park needs seasonal events like these to be able to keep up with the other Disney resorts around the world, especially Shanghai Disneyland. I’m glad they recognize this and are putting in the work to convince guests in the region to come back even after the 20th anniversary ends.

The big announcement for me personally, even though it was technically relatively small in comparison, was the announcement that the Pixar Entertainment Experience that will occupy the plot of land in between Toy Story Land and World of Frozen will open in 2027. For a long time I had heard rumors that it might open in late 2026, but HKDL finally put a nail in that coffin by announcing the timeline for its opening.

I am really excited for this Pixar Entertainment Experience. It’ll be the first proper expansion since World of Frozen and the fact that it’s going to have a show that is unique to Hong Kong Disneyland can only be good for the park. It makes me wonder though what the story of the show is going to be? Obviously it’s going to include Monsters Inc characters as that’s what the concept art shows. Maybe the door mechanism in Monsters Inc will be used to transport us to different Pixar worlds? That’s my guess at least.

it’s also interesting that HKDL is starting this Pixar Summer Fest a year before the theater is going to open. My thought here is that maybe they’re starting the event now with the hope of repeating it next year so that the theater opens alongside a Pixar Summer Fest. That’s just my speculation.
