Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL) is probably the most underrated park in the Disney pantheon. After opening in 2005 to negative reviews and very little fanfare, Disney’s second Asian castle park has now blossomed into a hidden gem. Filled with unique, original attractions, as well as some of the best entertainment offerings in any Disney Park, Hong Kong Disneyland has now earned the affection of millions of fans from around the world. But is visiting Hong Kong Disneyland worth it in 2026? That’s what I’ll be breaking down in this post.
As mentioned, Hong Kong Disneyland wasn’t always the beloved park it is today. Back when it opened, there were only 10 rides and 4 lands in the entire park. Public reaction to the park was abysmal, so much so that Hong Kong Disneyland spent the next 20 years trying to come back from their bad first impression. And now, it’s safe to say that they’ve succeeded.

Doubling both the ride and the land count, Hong Kong Disneyland has since grown into a theme park worthy of the Disney name. Adding attractions like Mystic Manor, Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars, and Frozen Ever After has cemented the park as a destination in and of itself. It also has added various entertainment offerings that have really rounded out the park, including Momentous which has caused more guests to stay in the park till closing.
But in terms of whether Hong Kong Disneyland is worth a visit this year, a lot of factors are going to come into play to determine whether or not planning a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland is worth it. Factors like park tickets, ride lineup, seasonal events, and hotel options should all be considered when deciding if it’s worth it to visit Hong Kong Disneyland this year. This post will dive into all of that and more to help you decide whether or not visiting HKDL will be worth it for you.

Klook.comRides

First up we’re going to discuss what is probably the biggest reason why most people go to theme parks: the rides. I’m going to be totally honest, HKDL doesn’t have the best ride lineup among the Disney Parks. It’s better than some parks like Hollywood Studios and Disney Adventure World, but lags behind parks like Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. I would even say it lags behind Shanghai Disneyland.
There are some standouts. Two of the best Disney rides in the world are located in Hong Kong Disneyland, and they’re exclusive to Hong Kong Disneyland too. I’m talking about Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars and Mystic Manor. Both of these rides are hallmarks of modern Imagineering and feature completely original stories.

Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars is Disney’s best coaster ever. Yes, you read that right. I think it’s the best Disney coaster ever made. It’s a long coaster filled with animatronics, many surprises, and impeccable theming. I would say it’s a mix between Big Thunder Mountain and Expedition Everest. The way the ride carves into the landscape of Grizzly Gulch is so immersive and breathtaking. It’s a must do when you’re in Hong Kong Disneyland.

And then there’s Mystic Manor, which isn’t just the best ride in Hong Kong Disneyland but the best currently operating Disney ride in the world (and this opinion is shared by a lot of Disney fans). With an original story, captivating characters, immersive show scenes, and a show-stopping finale, the ride encapsulates everything Disney excels at and more. I would go to Hong Kong Disneyland just for this.

But HKDL is more than just these two rides. They’ve also got some really good secondary rides that I would also consider headliners. It’s a Small World is a classic Disney experience, and it’s really good at Hong Kong Disneyland. Hyperspace Mountain is a thrilling Star Wars adventure, and Iron Man Experience is a cool new take on the classic Star Tours ride experience. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is cute and immersive, while the Jungle River Cruise might just be the best Jungle Cruise in the world.

Let’s not forget Frozen Ever After, the marquee attraction of HKDL’s World of Frozen. On the ride you’ll get to see Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf in a fun adventure filled with stunning animatronics and catchy Frozen tunes. It’s a great family ride that finally gives HKDL a proper, modern boat ride.
Now all these paint HKDL in a great light, but the truth is that outside of these rides, HKDL doesn’t have much else. The park has an average shooter ride with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle, three generic, off-the-shelf Toy Story Land rides, and a bunch of flat rides and spinners rounding out the ride lineup.

Again, the highlights of the park are highlights of the entire Disney Parks pantheon. But aside from those, you’re not looking at much else. I would still say rides are a big pro of why visiting HKDL is worth it, but they aren’t the park’s biggest selling point (I’ll get to what I think the park’s biggest selling points are in the next sections).

Klook.comLands

Speaking of big selling points, I would say HKDL’s lands are one of the biggest selling points for why the park is worth visiting. First off, you’ve got the lovely mountains in the background that frame the entire park beautifully. This is especially true for World of Frozen, where the real mountains in the back act like extensions of the North Mountain.
Speaking of World of Frozen, this is one of the best themed lands Disney has ever created. It’s beautiful, full of fun details, and has some of the best views in any theme park. You can tell that so much love and care went into creating the land. Imagineering knocked it out of the park with this one. And thankfully that’s not the only well-designed land that Hong Kong Disneyland has.

Grizzly Gulch is a breathtaking snapshot of the American West from more than a hundred years ago, with its own backstory and cast of characters. Adventureland might just be the best Adventureland in the world. It has so much charm and depth to it, and is so lush that it makes you forget that you’re in the middle of Hong Kong. Mystic Point, with its eclectic art style, evokes the adventurous spirit encapsulated by its eccentric owner. Main Street USA, modeled after Disneyland’s, is charming, even if the buildings are a bit small.

Now while those are the good lands, HKDL also has some that are not so good. Tomorrowland’s former spaceport theme has been dropped in favor of a mish-mash of technology-adjacent properties like Star Wars and Marvel. Fantasyland, while not the worst designed Fantasyland, lacks a strong unifying aesthetic and story. And then there’s Toy Story Land, which feels all over the place and lacking in storytelling and thematic depth.
Overall, however, I would say that the lands at HKDL are good overall, especially with World of Frozen included among them. The five good lands lift up the three ok lands. And as mentioned, nothing will beat that incredible mountain-backdrop, making the park’s location the best of any Disney theme park. No matter what land you’re in, the immersion is top tier because of them.
Klook.comEntertainment
Now let’s talk about the entertainment, or as I like to call it “The Main Reason to Go to Hong Kong Disneyland”. Hong Kong Disneyland’s entertainment lineup is the second best lineup in the world only after Disneyland Paris. There is not a single bad show in the park. Of course some of them are better than others, but they all have their good points.

Momentous is the best nighttime spectacular currently playing at a Disney theme park, especially now that Disneyland’s Fantasmic has declined significantly. It crafts a compelling narrative, showing the different stages of life accentuated by great arrangements of Disney songs and stunning projections. I will admit that the show doesn’t have the best pyro, but this show is so much more than just a fireworks show. It’s a must see at HKDL and makes a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland worth it by itself.

Then there are the two major stage shows: Mickey and the Wondrous Book and Festival of the Lion King. Both of them are incredible. Mickey and the Wondrous Book is one of the best stage shows ever made for a Disney park. With a good story, wonderful performers, and incredible set design, it’s further evidence that Disney Live Entertainment is at a renaissance period right now.
We also have to talk about Festival of the Lion King. This re-telling of The Lion King is now a Hong Kong Disneyland classic. With acrobats, fire spinners, and the best finale of a theme park show ever, Festival of the Lion King is leaps and bounds better than its counterpart in Animal Kingdom. You need to see this show when you’re at Hong Kong Disneyland.

Even the smaller shows at HKDL are incredibly well done. Moana: A Homecoming Celebration is a fun, ingenious show that uses its relatively small stage and cast to their fullest extent to create an experience that is sure to satisfy every Moana fan. Playhouse in the Woods is a fun character encounter with amazing projections and some interactivity thrown in there for good measure.

Then finally, we have Friendtastic. One of the best daytime parades ever, and certainly the best Hong Kong Disneyland daytime parade ever, the parade is able to unify all of its floats under one common theme: friendship. Everything from the music to the performers interacting with the audience really brings home this theme, achieving a thematic cohesion that parades rarely do. This overarching theme is what makes me emotional each time I see it, and it consistently delivers so much magic.
The only negative HKDL has in terms of entertainment is actually what it lacks: a nighttime parade. Hong Kong Disneyland used to have a nighttime parade called Paint the Night, similar to the one found in California. If that were still running at HKDL, the park’s entertainment could best Disneyland Paris’ entertainment lineup. But alas, it isn’t, so it still lags slightly behind. But on the whole, the entertainment at this park is on another level, and I can’t wait to see what the future of entertainment has in store for HKDL.

Klook.comSeasonal Events

Hong Kong Disneyland puts on amazing seasonal events. While not on the level of Disneyland or Tokyo Disney Resort, the special offerings Hong Kong Disneyland has for its seasonal events are world class. This is especially true for the Halloween, Christmas, Lunar New Year, and Summer seasons.
Halloween ushers in Let’s Get Wicked, a stage show performed in the Festival of the Lion King theater. This award winning show is sure to delight every Disney Villains fan, featuring top notch choreography, acrobatics, and stage craft. Hong Kong Disneyland usually also has some sort of Halloween parade going on as well, and the one I saw on a recent trip was fantastic.
Christmas is another great time to visit HKDL. Main Street USA is usually all decked out for the holidays, and in recent years visiting during Christmas time usually means seeing the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony that includes drones.

Summer, which is oppressively hot, usually has some sort of water parade to keep guests cool. This year, the Pixar Water Play Street Party will be running throughout the entire summer, allowing guests to cool off from the blazing Hong Kong heat. There will also be a Pixar drone show happening before Momentous every night in the summer as well.
Finally, the park also celebrates Chinese New Year with special meet and greets, entertainment, and experiences all centered around the specific zodiac sign that the coming year represents.
There’s always some sort of special event going on at Hong Kong Disneyland. And honestly, this makes going to the parks so much more magical. If you visit when special experiences and entertainment are running, I highly recommend checking them out. They add so much to the uniqueness and energy of Hong Kong Disneyland, and in my opinion they add a mark to the Hong Kong Disneyland is worth it column.
Klook.comDining

Dining at Hong Kong Disneyland is good. It might actually be the best of the three Asian resorts. But there’s a little factor that detracts from it (which I will get into at the end of this section). But first, let me tell you some of my favorite food items in the park.
When it comes to snacks, definitely try the soft serve on Main Street, the Korean Squid in Adventureland, the Soft Serve Slushy, Churro Bites, and Popcorn Chicken Nachos from the Lucky Nugget Saloon in Grizzly Gulch, the Dole Whip and Lotso Waffle Sandwich from Jessie’s Snack Roundup in Toy Story Land, the Coronation Slush and Olaf Ice Cream from Northern Delights in World of Frozen, and the Mickey Waffles from Fantasyland. The Caramel Popcorn and Mickey Ice Cream Bar that you can find all around the park are also worth trying.

As for the restaurants I’d highly recommend the Fried Chicken in Starliner Diner in Tomorrowland, the Japanese Curry Pork Chop from Comet Cafe in Tomorrowland, the Meat Lover Pizza and Miso Halibut Combo from Royal Banquet Hall in Fantasyland, the Beef Steak Mee Goreng from Wayfinder’s Table in Adventureland, the Forest Mushroom Pasta from Golden Crocus Inn in World of Frozen, and the Albert Burger from Explorer’s Club Restaurant in Mystic Point.

Now you might be wondering, if HKDL has all these great food options, what could possibly detract from the overall dining experience. Simple: cost. HKDL has the most expensive food among all the Asia parks. It almost reaches US prices at points, especially for the sit down restaurants and the Golden Crocus Inn. People usually come to HKDL expecting cheap food and are shocked to find out that it’s actually expensive. And as good as the food is, it doesn’t justify the very high price point.
Keep this in mind when choosing where in the park you want to eat. The most affordable food I’ve seen is in Comet Cafe, but you don’t just want to eat in 1 restaurant the whole time. You can also try Royal Banquet Hall, Starliner Diner, and Wayfinder’s Table. Golden Crocus Inn is one of the most expensive quick service restaurants across the Disney Parks, so only eat there if you have Frozen fans in your group or if you’re celebrating a special occasion.

Klook.comShopping and Merchandise

Hong Kong Disneyland probably ties Tokyo for best park merchandise. I know that’s a bold statement to make but it’s true. The merch team at Hong Kong Disneyland keeps coming out with collection after collection that should satisfy fans and regular guests alike. Now I know that liking a specific kind of merch is a very subjective thing, but let me name some examples to show why I think HKDL has the best merch team.
They’re the first Asian park to come out with spirit jerseys. The spirit jerseys are also relatively cheap compared to the ones in the US parks. From what I remember they were at least $30 cheaper. Of course, Duffy and Friends is also big in Asia, so they have entire sections of stores dedicated to them. You can buy plushes, keychains, apparel, utensils, almost anything you can think of featuring Duffy and Friends.

But where HKDL excels the most is in their park specific merch. They have blind boxes of everything from keychains of the reusable bags you can buy in the stores to attraction ride vehicles and even the trash cans. Yup, even the trash cans have their own blind box figurines (I may have bought two of the sets). They also have collections centered around specific attractions, like Mystic Manor and Mickey’s Philharmagic. You can buy shirts, pins, hats, and even chocolate candy tins centered around these attractions.
Another pro for HKDL is that the merchandise is cheap, at least compared to the US parks. You won’t go broke buying a pair of ears or a spirit jersey in this park, that’s for sure. While it has gone up in price over the years, it’s still far from the prices you’ll find in Orlando and Anaheim.
Klook.comTickets

Tickets to Hong Kong Disneyland, like tickets to any Asian Disney Park, are cheap compared to the US parks. A One-Day ticket is priced starting at HK$669, which is about $85 US dollars. The great thing about Hong Kong Disneyland tickets as well is that they always have some special offer going on. There’s an offer right now to get a two-day ticket for only HK$100 more than a one-day ticket. That means if you use that offer, your ticket becomes $98 USD or $49 dollars a day.

This is one of the biggest reasons why a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland is worth it. Ticket prices are still stuck in the early 2010s prices relative to the US parks. You can also save more money on tickets by buying them on third-party websites like Klook. Those sites are usually a little cheaper than buying them from the HKDL website, and sometimes they include the special offers already being offered by the HKDL website.
For perspective, a 2-Day ticket to HKDL is cheaper than the cheapest 1-Day ticket to Disneyland. And because of how cheap tickets are compared to the US, it might even be worthwhile to buy a Magic Access (Hong Kong Disneyland’s version of the Annual Pass) as it could save you a lot of money. I’ll go over that more in the next section.
Read my HKDL Tickets Guide.
Klook.comMagic Access

If you’re planning on visiting for 3 days or more, it might make more sense to buy an Annual Pass, known here as Magic Access. Magic Access passes are very cheap. I recently had to purchase Disneyland tickets and a 2-day park hopper ticket was more expensive than my Annual Pass.
A Silver Magic Access currently costs HK$1,568, which is about $200. For Students, Children, and the elderly it’s even cheaper at HK$1,178 or $150. Plus with it you get a bunch of perks like discounts on food and merch, access to exclusive Magic Access only parties and events, and so much more!
So again, if you’re going for 3 or more days, or plan to go back in the next year, consider buying a Magic Access pass! Just be sure to check the blockout dates before your trip starts to see which one you should buy.
Klook.comDisney Premier Access and Early Entry

Disney Premier Access is Hong Kong Disneyland’s Skip-The-Line service. For a fee you can skip the lines at various attractions at Hong Kong Disneyland. You can buy them in bundles of 3 attractions, 8 attractions, or 8 attractions plus 3 shows including Momentous, as well as in singles. Early Entry on the other hand, is a pass that allows you to enter Hong Kong Disneyland an hour before everyone else.
Now normally in this section I would list reasons why I think Disney Premier Access is bad and expensive. I would also gripe on about how I think it’s a cash grab considering fastpasses were free before. But I actually think the Premier Access system in Hong Kong Disneyland is good and more worth it than the Lightning Lane system at Disneyland, even if you have to pay per attraction. Let me explain.

At HKDL, every attraction is on Premier Access. Even rides like Dumbo, the Tea Cups, and Slinky Dog Spin are Premier Access rides. This gives you a lot of variety in terms of where you can use Premier Access. In addition, you aren’t tied down to a time with Premier Access. You can buy them at 10:30am and use them at 7:30pm. This allows you to save it for the most crowded part of the day. To my knowledge, you can also buy multiple of them in a day, meaning if you wanted to buy 8 of them for Frozen Ever After you could.

That being said, despite all the benefits, I don’t think HKDL’s Premier Access system is worth it, mostly because of the crowd levels. I’ll explain what I mean by that in the crowds section of this article.
However, Early Entry at Hong Kong Disneyland is always worth it. You get access to 5 rides (as of June 2026) before anyone else, usually with minimal waits, allowing you to get a headstart on the day. They’re also good for taking uncrowded pictures in front of the castle and in World of Frozen. HKDL also isn’t open for that long, with it being open most days for only 10 hours. Adding an extra hour means more time in the park for you.
These are extras, and having them won’t make or break your visit, but they’re good things to have when the park gets too crowded (Premier Access) or if you want a headstart to your day (Early Entry).
Read my Premier Access Guide and my Early Entry Guide.
Klook.comHotels

Hong Kong Disneyland has 3 onsite hotels: the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, Disney Explorers Lodge, and Hollywood Hotel. All three hotels have their own themes and design aesthetic, and go from most to least expensive, respectively. I think these hotels are worth staying at and are a notch in the Hong Kong Disneyland worth it column, with the biggest reason being their price point.
HKDL hotels are so much cheaper than the hotels at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, and just like for tickets, there’s always some sort of deal happening that allows you to save a lot on rooms. Let’s take a look at the most expensive hotel: The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. This would be classified as a deluxe resort at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Its most expensive nightly cost? A third of the cost of a deluxe resort at Walt Disney World or Disneyland. Hollywood Hotel, the cheapest of the three, would be a Moderate hotel in Walt Disney World and Disneyland but is cheaper than Art of Animation and Pop Century at Walt Disney World, both Value hotels.

Granted, you don’t get any perks to staying onsite at Hong Kong Disneyland. You don’t get early entry or premier access passes. You mainly get guaranteed theme park entry, a special entrance to HKDL, and shuttles to and from the park. But because of how cheap they are, they make bundling a stay with your visit to Hong Kong Disneyland worth it.
If you’re spending multiple days at Hong Kong Disneyland, it might be worth it to stay at a hotel, mostly because the nearest third party hotel is at least a 20-minute subway ride away from the resort. On days when you think you want to take a break during the day, you can do so easily if you stay onsite, while staying offsite could make doing this more difficult and expensive since you will incur transportation costs to and from the resort.

And then you get the amenities, services, activities, and facilities at the hotels. Each of the three hotels has a pool. They each also have immaculately themed and maintained gardens. There’s also a character buffet restaurant in every hotel. Lounges also exist in every hotel, with the one at Hollywood Hotel even being Marvel themed. At the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel you can experience the popular Disney Character Dim Sum meal featuring dim sums resembling Disney characters.
Activities abound in the hotels as well, with events like Tai Chi with a Disney character, drawing classes, arcades, mini-golf, and even movies under the stars. The only real downside to the hotels is that the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Hollywood Hotel don’t have quick service options. Only the Explorers Lodge has one, so you’re going to have to walk to the Explorer’s Lodge to buy some quick service food. But other than that, the hotels make a stay at Hong Kong Disneyland worth it in my opinion.
Read my reviews and guides to Explorer’s Lodge and Hollywood Hotel, as well as my HKDL Hotel Guide.
Klook.comTransportation

Transportation is another reason why I think Hong Kong Disneyland is worth it. The MTR or subway is so close to the park it makes it easy to get to downtown Hong Kong if you’re staying on-property. From the hotels you can either take a shuttle to the Public Transport Interchange to get to the park and to the Disneyland MTR station, or you can walk from the far side of Park Promenade to the park. This is mostly accessible from the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, but you could theoretically walk from the other two hotels.

Transportation in Hong Kong Disneyland is very efficient. Shuttles leave every 5-10 minutes from each of the hotels to the park, and the whole resort is very walkable. It’s a tiny resort, so it’s good that everything is reachable from everywhere. The only really secluded part of the resort is Inspiration Lake, which you can still walk to even though it might take a while.
Hong Kong Disneyland is also very ideally situated near the airport. A taxi from the airport takes only about 15 minutes, and it’s reasonably priced. Public buses also serve the resort and can be accessed from the Public Transport Interchange. Overall, transportation is a big plus when deciding if Hong Kong Disneyland is worth it.
Check out my How to Get to HKDL post.
Klook.comCrowds

Aside from entertainment, crowds are the other big factor that makes a vacation to Hong Kong Disneyland worth it. That’s because for about 75% of the year, they are minimal. Even in the early summer season, you’ll be able to visit on the weekends and encounter low crowds. I’m talking Frozen Ever After being at a 10-minute wait kind of low. It’s actually pretty crazy how low the crowds are.
During my last visit, I don’t think we waited for longer than 10 minutes for anything. Every ride had basically no wait, so there was no need for things like Premier Access. This is why I was saying that Premier Access, while it is a good system, isn’t worth it. It’s mostly because crowds are usually so low that you don’t need them.

And the thing is, even with low crowds, HKDL still operates at full capacity most of the time. They don’t cancel parades, fireworks, or close rides because of low crowds. The odd quick service restaurant might be closed if few guests are visiting on a given day, but that’s about it.
The low crowds makes HKDL the most uncomplicated park to visit. During a time when going to parks like Disneyland and Tokyo Disney means staring at your phone half the time to get DPAs and other reservations, it’s nice to be able to just go to a Disney Park with minimal planning (I say minimal because you still have to plan) and just stroll around and go on rides when you wish without worrying about high wait times and needing to skip the line. The low crowds adds so much to the charm of the park and makes visiting HKDL so easy.

If you’re used to crowds at the other Disney Parks, visiting Hong Kong Disneyland would be a welcome respite. Of course, there will still be times when the park is extra busy, such as Christmas, Easter, during Mainland China and Hong Kong holidays, and especially during Chinese New Year. But for the rest of the year, you’re most likely looking at uncrowded bliss.
Klook.comCast Members

Cast Members at HKDL are the magic. They really are. Without them, Hong Kong Disneyland would lack its character and charm. I have had great experiences with cast members over the years, from excellent Jungle River Cruise skippers to amazing and talented performers. The Hong Kong Disneyland cast is truly dedicated to making your visit magical. Also, if you’re worried about a language barrier, don’t be. Most cast members at HKDL speak excellent English.
Cast Members are a big part of why so many of us have fallen in love with the parks. All the most technologically advanced rides and immersive shows wouldn’t be as impactful if it weren’t for the dedication of the cast members behind them. So if you have an experience with an exceptional cast member, leave a cast compliment at City Hall or Guest Relations. It lets them know that they’re doing a good job, which goes a long way for their careers with the company.
Klook.comIs Visiting Hong Kong Disneyland Worth It in 2026?

So is visiting Hong Kong Disneyland worth it in 2026?
I would say yes, wholeheartedly.
Hong Kong Disneyland’s good attraction and stellar entertainment lineup, filled with attractions and shows exclusive to the park, make a visit to Hong Kong Disneyland very unique. In addition, the seasonal events at Hong Kong Disneyland, including the Pixar Summer Event, Halloween, and Christmas, turns a visit to HKDL into a special vacation.

Then of course you have the general affordability of merch, hotels and tickets, as well as the cheap prices for annual passes. These make a trip to HKDL from the US and Europe very affordable, with the only expensive part of your vacation probably being the flight. HKDL also always has deals going on for hotels and tickets, making it even more cost efficient.
Then you have the minimal crowds at the park. Your trip really is more magical when you don’t have to be on your phone the whole time and you can just walk around and get on any ride you wish without that much of a wait. It makes for a more relaxed experience and allows you to experience the park stress-free.

That being said, if you’re planning a one-in-a-lifetime trip to HKDL, it could be worth it to delay it by 2 years. They are currently building a new theater for a Pixar show, as well as a Tower of Terror-style Avengers ride! The Avengers ride is scheduled to open in 2028 or 2029, so if you want to experience that ride, it might be worth it to wait a few years.
If, however, you want to make the trip now, I say go book it! Hong Kong Disneyland is a charming, laid-back, and uncomplicated park to visit, and it’s worth it to experience some of the best rides and shows in the Disney pantheon. So go book that trip! I promise you won’t regret it.
Klook.comIs Visiting Hong Kong Disneyland Worth It in 2026 Conclusion
