Marvel is one of the biggest media franchises in history, mostly thanks to the series of movies released in the 2000s and 2010s that formed one interconnected universe. The Marvel universe contains so many memorable characters, and thankfully some of them are represented in Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL). Hong Kong Disneyland is one of three parks that has a dedicated Marvel-themed area (the others being Disney Adventure World and Disney California Adventure) and this Guide to Marvel in Hong Kong Disneyland will cover everything there is to do in HKDL that is Marvel-themed.

If you’re a big Marvel fan and are wondering if there are any HKDL attractions, entertainment, character experiences, dining, or merchandise locations that are Marvel-themed, well then you’re in luck! HKDL has some of the best Marvel offerings in the world that should satisfy every kind of Marvel fan. Klook.comBackground on Marvel at Hong Kong Disneyland

Believe it or not, the first Marvel attraction at a Disney Park opened in Hong Kong Disneyland. The Iron Man Experience, a motion-simulator ride, became the first Marvel ride at a Disney Park when it opened in 2016. Since then, a number of marvel rides have opened at Disney Parks all around the world, but HKDL gets the distinction of being the first place where Disney started their foray into Marvel-based rides.
They’ve since added a second Marvel ride to the park, as well as confirmed plans for a third Marvel-themed ride. This has effectively turned that corner of the park into a subsection of Tomorrowland titled Stark Expo, with the different rides functioning as pavilions of this make-believe expo. I like this a lot actually, because for me it’s a better story for a Marvel-land than Avengers Campus.

But the question now is, will the addition of a third Marvel ride to the park be the catalyst of a complete retheme of the Tomorrowland area of the park. The nearby Starliner Diner has been converted into a Marvel-themed restaurant. This leaves Comet Cafe, Orbitron, and Hyperspace Mountain as the only parts of Tomorrowland not to be themed to Marvel. My guess is that the whole Tomorrowland is going to be given a Marvel aesthetic eventually, or Tomorrowland will be split into two separate lands. As to which option Disney will choose to do remains to be seen.
Compared to Star Wars, the representation of Marvel at Hong Kong Disneyland is a lot more prominent. This speaks to the popularity of the MCU in Asia, with the films resonating more with audiences in this region than Star Wars films do. It’s no wonder that Disney is also building a new Marvel-themed land in Shanghai Disneyland to keep up with demand for more Marvel attractions. If you’re a diehard Marvel fan, you’ll be surprised with how many Marvel offerings Hong Kong Disneyland has.
Let’s dive into them!

Attractions
Iron Man Experience

As mentioned, this ride was the first Marvel themed ride to debut at a Disney Park. Opening in 2016, this was to be Hong Kong Disneyland’s version of Star Tours: The Adventures Continue. Using the same ride system, but telling a completely different story, Iron Man Experience is also completely unique to Hong Kong Disneyland, and because of its story it will forever remain exclusive to the park.
In the attraction, you’re visiting the Stark Industries pavilion in Stark Expo Hong Kong. The queue feels like a museum, and is honestly the best queue in the entire park. You’ll see Tony Stark’s iron man suit, as well as models of the different vehicles Tony Stark has developed, including the one that you will be riding called the Iron Wing. It might take you several walkthroughs to fully absorb every detail of the queue.

You then enter the boarding area where you get your Stark Vision glasses (which are essentially just themed 3D glasses). Afterwards, you enter the Iron Wing and begin your journey to Tony Stark’s arc reactor, located in Downtown Hong Kong. You actually see yourselves leaving the park, flying over the Castle of Magical Dreams and World of Frozen before going to Downtown Hong Kong.
While in Downtown Hong Kong, you get a glimpse of these robots sent by Hydra to try and steal the arc reactor. Iron Man, currently meeting guests at the pavilion you just left, is summoned to fend off these robots. Suddenly one robot attacks you, sending you plummeting to the ground. Iron Man saves you, and after teaming up with Tony Stark and delivering a (seemingly) final blast to destroy the robots, a larger, more complex robot appears.
Seeing that it isn’t possible to destroy this monstrosity of a machine with just us and Iron Man, Tony calls on the other Iron Wings to help us. You then head inside the beast, find its weakness, and shoot at it. Tony pushes you out of the machine just as it explodes. But suddenly, your power falters, so Tony takes your grappling cables and leads you back to Stark Expo. You land safely back at the pavilion, having just saved the day!

This is one of my favorite rides at the park. It has a good narrative, full of stakes and real world consequences, and while the tech may be a bit out of date, it does a good job of using that technology to convey its story. The queue, as mentioned, is the best queue in the park. Overall, it’s a solid ride that I’m glad HKDL has, even though by setting it in the present it kind of negates the whole theme of Tomorrowland, which is a shame because HKDL used to have the most thematically consistent Tomorrowland.
I would save this ride for later in the day. I would ride it right before dinner. It rarely gets long lines these days, especially on days when crowds are light. This ride has premier access, which I wouldn’t necessarily use as the premier access line bypasses a lot of the queue. Be warned that this ride can cause motion sickness, as it most often does with me. I still ride it, but just be warned and take all necessary precautions to help combat motion sickness before riding, especially if you’re like me.
Klook.comAnt-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle

Opened in 2019, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle is a shooting dark ride similar to the various Buzz Lightyear rides found in other Disney Parks around the world. This ride was actually formerly a Buzz Lightyear ride until it was announced in 2016 to be getting a retheme. It shut down in 2017 to be transformed into another pavilion at Stark Expo. This time, the pavilion is the S.H.I.E.L.D. Science and Technology pavilion.
In the ride, which does a first for a Disney ride and ties into the story of another ride, during Hydra’s surge into Hong Kong as seen in the Iron Man Experience ride, Arnim Zola and his squadron of Swarm Bots threaten to steal the Data Core, a precious asset located inside the pavilion. Ant-Man and the Wasp then recruit guests, who were set to tour the pavilion, to help them fight off Arnim Zola and his bots.

You’re taken through a secret door of the pavilion, which contains weapons and other gadgets to help you on your mission. You then enter the load area and are then loaded one by one onto the DAGGER vehicles, each equipped with two EMP blasters. You’re then given the task of shooting at the swarm bots, all the while avoiding shooting Ant-Man and the Wasp.
After going through the first few rooms and successfully attacking the swarm bots, you’re then shrunk down with the help of Ant-Man and the Wasp. You’re then brought to the area where the data core is held, and are able to blast Arnim Zola and his swarm bots away, saving the day and successfully completing your mission. Ant-Man, the Wasp, and Iron Man congratulate you, and after being brought back to regular size, you exit the ride through the gift shop.

This, truthfully, isn’t the best ride in the park and it’s far from my favorite ride. I think the ride has many flaws, such as the lack of movement and kinetic energy in the ride itself, the confusing narrative during the ride that doesn’t really explain how shooting at these targets helps Ant-Man in any way, the fact that you can’t control where you face your car anymore, the lack of animatronics, and the lackluster queue.
It’s still a fun ride thanks to the shooting aspect of it, with the shooting system being the most advanced version of this technology, but the ride is just not exciting, even with the implied high stakes of the narrative. I personally think that Buzz Lightyear was the superior ride as that ride had a clear story and impressive animatronics. This ride doesn’t have either of those.
If you want to ride this, ride it around the same time you plan on riding the Iron Man Experience, as they are essentially right next to each other. This usually commands the shortest lines in the park, so I would do it later in the day when lines for other rides are longer. This does have Disney Premier Access, but I wouldn’t use it unless the line exceeds 40 minutes, which it rarely does.
Klook.comIron Man Tech Showcase

Located in the building next to the Expo Shop, the Iron Man Tech Showcase is a Meet and Greet with Iron Man. You’re brought into a room with other guests and see Iron Man fly into the room behind a door. It’s a cool effect that makes the meet and greet even more immersive. It also helps that Iron Man talks to you, which is pretty cool.
If you have time, and want to meet characters, this is probably the most unique meet and greet in the park. Do note, however, that the line for this meet and greet can get quite long, so you will be sacrificing some time just for a meet and greet. Unless you’re a huge Marvel fan or are with someone who is a huge Marvel fan, I would suggest skipping this unless you have a lot of extra time in your day.
Meet and Greets Outside Ant-Man
There is also a smaller meet and greet area outside of Ant-Man where characters like Captain America, Captain Marvel, and Spider-Man go to meet park guests. To my knowledge, they appear pretty randomly throughout the day, so the character you get in line for might not be the character you end up meeting. Just something to keep in mind, and the line for this meet and greet is usually shorter than the Iron Man line, so this could be a good option for you if you want to meet a character but don’t want to wait too long in line.
Klook.comRestaurants
Starliner Diner

This wasn’t originally a Marvel restaurant, but has since been re-themed into one. The art on the dining room walls features beautiful murals of Marvel characters. These were made by Japanese Artist and Disney fan Kaz Oomori. There’s also a cool spaceship at the entrance of the restaurant, and the bathrooms actually have a secret shortcut that leads to Main Street by the Corner Cafe.

The food is themed to Marvel characters as well. My favorite meal here is the Expo Combo which is a Wagyu Beef Cheeseburger with potato wedges. The bun for this looks like the Iron Man helmet, and is even colored red. There’s also a Gamma Combo with the bun being themed to the Hulk and the meal being a double beef bacon cheeseburger with fries, a Planet X combo themed to Groot that is a wild mushroom cheeseburger with fries, a Web Slinger combo featuring a black Spider-Man bun that is a prawn cheeseburger with fries, and a Fried Chicken combo. The Fried Chicken is also excellent and I would highly recommend ordering it as well.

I do enjoy the food at this restaurant overall. It’s a good place to go if you have picky eaters in your party who just want standard American theme park food. As good as the art is inside the restaurant, if the weather isn’t too hot and you’re there for dinner, I highly recommend eating outside for a great view of Tomorrowland at night.
Klook.comMerchandise
Pavillion Gifts
This is the shop that also serves as the exit for the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle ride. You can find ride merchandise and Ant-Man and the Wasp-themed merchandise here, as well as different Marvel-themed character merchandise. You’ll find shirts, toys, pins, stationary, figurines, and other items to commemorate your mission at this gift shop.
Expo Shop
This is the shop that, to my knowledge, is the exit of the Iron Man Tech Showcase. Here you’ll find Iron Man Experience merch, as well as merch themed to Iron Man and other Marvel superheroes. This is where you can also buy a Spider-Bot, a remote controlled robot that is featured in the ride Web Slingers in Disney California Adventure, and Disney Adventure World. Why it’s available here remains a mystery, but it’s good to know you can purchase it here if you would like one.
Klook.comHotels

If you didn’t know, part of Disney’s Hollywood Hotel’s recent transformation has turned part of the hotel into a Marvel-lovers dream. Marvel theming can be found all over the hotel. From concept art lining the walls of the Archivist to a mural at the back of the reception desks, this hotel is the perfect resting place for any Marvel fan. Let me go through each part of the hotel that is Marvel themed.
The Archivist

The Archivist is a Marvel-themed lounge located next to the Hotel gift shop. Featuring striking Marvel art on the outer wall of the lounge, the lounge serves food and drinks that are all Marvel-themed. Located around the lounge are props and other items taken directly from the Marvel universe, including the Infinity Gauntlet taking up the middle portion of the lounge.
The art deco lounge has many options for lunch and dinner. There are Marvel-themed cocktails available, as well as various bites and eats that all have Marvel motifs. This is definitely a must-visit destination for any Marvel fan. Do note that it is a little pricey, but I would recommend eating here once for the experience if you happen to be staying at the hotel as the food is definitely worth the price.
Rooms

Half the rooms in the hotel are Marvel-themed. Featuring accents, touches, and artwork all themed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the rooms are a great way to get immersed in Marvel stories while at Hong Kong Disneyland. I’ve been lucky enough to stay at these rooms twice and I love the theming in these rooms. From the large Marvel artwork in the main wall to the Marvel heroes on the bath curtain, these rooms are perfect for any Marvel fan.

Marvel in Hong Kong Disneyland Conclusion
The Marvel presence in HKDL is expansive and varied, with multiple attractions, gift stores, and experiences all themed to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. I would say HKDL is the best place in the world to go if you’re a Marvel fan, beating out DCA’s and Disney Adventure World’s Avengers Campuses (that is until the expansion at DCA opens).
